smush is too unreliable, ie inconsistent, he's their alston.

I say it's good for us...the only big they have that even has future potential to carry Yao's jock strap is Bynum (now he would be gone)...and with Kidd they have at max three years and now they don't even have draft picks to pick up hustle players like Walton and Turiaf. The triangle offense doesn't really emphasize a great passing pg in so much as they need a decent shooting pg (ie Fisher or Parker) and a great passing forward (Odom), which they already have. Kidd is not a huge upgrade in terms of outside shooting to Parker. Plus they get tied up financially with little room to grow... I say bring it on.

Francis is a better career shooter in every category so that should tell you something. No, he's not Andre Miller and in Kidd's defense 43% from the field and 35% from behind the arc this year is actually an improvement for him but can he really function in the triangle with numbers like that?

Kidd is almost strictly an uptempo offense type of a player. That's not to say he couldn't function in a slower half-court offense but if you try to plug him into an offense like that you're basically ignoring probably his biggest strength.

I heard on ESPN that the Nets really want Bynum. Yao would go off even more, if he is traded. However, Kidd is a serious upgrade from Smush.

THey won't get Kidd without giving up Kwame Brown, which is their best post defender. dont think they can do too much damage without Brown, even with Kidd.

I beg to differ. You're saying that Jason Kidd wouldn't be an upgrade over smush Parker, Rafer Alston or pretty much any point guard in the west not named Nash?

Kidd ain't what he once was but for opposing teams he is a hell of a distraction.

I think it will improve them a little but it takes more than just two guards to win a champ they still need a big to get past Yao. You can always shut one of the two down that's just my opinion

I love this point. Lakers getting Kidd is like the Rockets getting Barkley.

Good player that messes up the system.

It would be extremely difficult to change the offensive system in the last 2 months of the season, while trying to make a playoff. The Lakers will bomb with this trade.

They will be mortgaging their future by trading for an old grizzled veteran to be in the "Win Now" mode. There are alot of posters completely against giving up our young talent for any more old grizzled vets.

It means to the Rockets that Yao will dominate their INSIDE with much more ease.

I don't think they're "doing so well" given that they have lost 12 of the last 15 or 16 games and are seriously 'choking' away games to inferior teams as of late.

You wouldn't be saying that had you seen Phil Jackson's reaction after they lost the game last night (the game buzzer sounded, he just sat there and refused to move and kept staring with disgust at every one of his players walking off the court...I have NEVER seen that type of reaction from PJ before, he clearly is pissed off at his team's lack of competitiveness and commitment to his game plan, which emphasizes defense).

Bad analogy. We did better the year Barkley got here despite Hakeem continuing his physical decline. Barkley helped us return to the WCF and beat Seattle upon his rival (after Seattle has swept us the year before), and had we picked up a vet PG, who knows, probably a battle for all the marbles with the Bulls.

I do agree Kidd is not the Lakers best fit. It isn't like the Lakers have run and gunners (except for Kobe) or already don't have a guy to run the offense through (Kobe).

Sure Kidd is a ton better than Smush, but I don't think Kidd to the Lakers gets them far in the WC.

Mike Bibby is younger and better half court PG than Kidd. Yes he has had a down year this year, but I'd be more worried about him going to a contender.

This scenario can now be forgotten. With Wade due to miss some extended time, Nets will decide to hold onto Kidd and Carter and make a playoff push.

My friend from Phoenix said local news and radio says the Suns are close to landing Kidd for Kurt Thomas, Raja Bell, Marcus Banks, and Atlanta's pick, which the Suns own (which means the Nets could land Durant or Oden)

Apparently the Nets prefer this deal if the Lakers will not give up Bynum which they won't.

Also apparently the Suns want the deal simply to block the Lakers from getting Kidd because they feel they could not matchup with them in the playoffs if they got Kidd.

    Hmm....

    PG Nash/Barbosa
    SG Kidd/James Jones
    SF Marion/Rose
    PF Diaw/Jumaine Jones
    C Amare/Burke/Marks

The bench is awful but that top 7...........

    Nash
    Kidd
    Marion
    Diaw
    Amare
    Barbosa
    Rose

Carter makes much more sense in the deal above to Phx than Kidd. Kidd to Phx makes no sense on all kinds of basketball and non-basketball levels (not to mention the Suns brass wanted his wife slapping butt out of there last time). It is hardly even a credible enough fake to try to get the Lakers to put Bynum in the deal if that is their goal.
