Richrocket, good response on the purchasing part. I'm not equating the two, but Christian missionaries have long used the same techniques to indoctrinate people. Ever heard the term "Rice Christians"?

The brainwashing ,indoctrination or bizzarely strict religious upbringing is dangerous wherever it is practiced. That's why homeschooling by "Christian" survivalist types in the US is also a danger to our society. Another example are those who kill at abortion clinics. Often they often home schooled or in little "Christian" cult schools.

My response to the "purchase " part is to start getting these kids some food and start addressing the grievances that make the teachers, who are more sophisticated, so nuts. The teachers should be immediately fired. Perhaps the US can finance the hiring of real teachers to replace the fanatics who are training these kids. The US can foot the costs of the schools instead of relying from donations from Muslim fanatics.

Likely US response. Force Pakistan to close the schools. Go over to Afgahanistan and slaughter the graduates of the school. Unfortunately some will survive and I doubt simple slaughter will make them more moderate. No real aid to Pakistan after all they don't have any oil and once the Taliban are destroyed they no longer have any great use to us.

Yes, what a great generalization it is. Let's see, I've heard that there are about 1.3 billion Muslim, and THOUSANDS of extremist terrorists. Let me see, if 13 million is 1% of 1.3 billion, what percentage is THOUSANDS?

I don't care for the way the West, particularly the US is portrayed in ME media, but generalizations such as yours lead to a coninuous downward spiral in relations between peoples.

BTW, what the hell could the other 1.29999 billion Muslim be doing?

the definition of racism is: The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. your "generalization" perfectly fits this. you were comparing arabs/muslimsto the westerns. i was offended by your remarks because you included the islamic world which includes me.

american people raise more stupid children that shoot up school. hey, im not being racist. im "generalizing". if someone was to say this to me, i would be offended.

Treeman, just to clarify some facts...

Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign aid since WWII, Egypt does not get that much:

    Treeman,

You and others constantly state that the Arabs will not be satisfied till Israel is destroyed. But isn't it true that Palestine was destroyed and now we're simply seeing the ramifications of the destruction of a country, a displaced population and a
    "diaspora" so to speak?

I think we are forgetting the the Fact that Isreal wants every Palestinian in Isreal killed or thrown out.

Pakistan school is known as "Jihad U'
BY MARK MCDONALD Knight Ridder Foreign Service

AKORA KHATTAK, Pakistan -- The Haqqania Islamic seminary has graduated so many of its young men into the ranks of the Taliban, the radical Afghan rulers, that it has become known as Jihad -- or Holy War -- U.
And Maulana Samiul Haq, 62, the fiery Muslim scholar who runs the seminary, one of the largest in South Asia, said Sunday in an interview with Knight Ridder that he'd be happy if his students charged off to wage jihad against the United States and Pakistan, should the U.S. military launch strikes against the Taliban from Pakistani bases.

Although their numbers are relatively small, Haq and his radical brethren are a political force in Pakistan that the government cannot ignore and that could limit the scope of Pakistani cooperation with U.S. efforts against terrorism.

Haq is the leader of a faction of the Jamiat-Ulema-Islami, one of the largest and most radical Islamic parties in Pakistan. He also heads the Afghanistan and Pakistan Defense Council, a collection of 35 like-minded religious groups.

"Holy war will be the duty of all Muslims, not just my students," said Haq, who counts himself as a close friend of suspected terrorist leader Osama bin Laden. "If there is jihad, the students won't need my permission. They must go.

"Wives won't need permission from their husbands. Sons won't need permission from their fathers. All Muslims must go on jihad as their holy duty. People will go to the streets, and people will attack America."

Haq is the most outspoken and controversial of Pakistan's Islamist clerics.

"America is using Pakistan against Afghanistan," Haq said. "Bush is attempting to buy Pakistan and Pakistan's favors. He will rain dollars and greenbacks on us while handing us a gun to kill our innocent people in Afghanistan. It's known as mercenary in our part of the world, and we don't like it."

As U.S. military action seems imminent, anti-U.S. feelings are rising in Pakistan, especially here in the Northwest Frontier Province, midway between the capital, Islamabad, and the Afghan border crossing at the Khyber Pass. Haq's America-bashing is getting plenty of play in newspapers, on the radio and in the nation's tea stalls and markets.

In an interview at his residence Sunday, Haq warned the Bush administration that Afghans would never surrender if attacked, and he praised the ferocity of the Taliban forces, many of whom were schooled in the Quran, the sacred book of Islam -- and extremist politics -- at his renowned madrasa, or religious school.

"We haven't taught the Afghans to be fierce fighters; they learned that from the Soviet intervention," he said. "They were fighting for 25 years, and with the arrival of the U.S. army, they'll get a refresher course. Ha! The Americans are coming to conduct a refresher course for them."

Haq was pleased at his turn of phrase, then came up with another.

"Osama was a hero to the Americans when he was fighting the Soviets for them. I don't understand why he has gone from a hero to a zero."

On the walls of dormitory rooms at the Haqqania school, students have hung posters praising bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar. The 3,000 students -- most of them poor Afghan boys who live and study free of charge -- are as young as 9 and as old as 35. There are no girls at the school. The Taliban opposes education for women.

Wealthy Pakistanis and Muslim benefactors in the Persian Gulf states reportedly finance the school.

The lessons are mostly religious drills, although some students study math, history and languages. There are about 10,000 madrasas in Pakistan, with an estimated total enrollment of 1 million -- all of them young jihadis in the making. Some of the madrasas are known to combine bomb-assembly and sharpshooting lessons with Quranic studies.

"Most madrasas perform a quite necessary social function, educating poor boys who would otherwise never be able to go to school," said a Pakistani government official who asked not to be named. "But what we must say is that the madrasas must be deweaponized.'"

Haq insists there are no weapons at his school. His alumni must go to military training camps in Afghanistan or elsewhere in Pakistan for those sorts of lessons.

"No one is allowed to get military training in this madrasa," Haq said.

But in the markets just across the busy Grand Trunk Highway from the school, a serviceable (and loaded) AK-47 goes for about $80.

The Pakistani government has not effectively moved to close or restrict the more radical madrasas out of fears of a backlash by the religious right.

Why would you be offended by anything. You have no respect for the truth anyway. Why do liars get upset when someone tells them something that isn't true?

Of course, I suppose this entire post could be another of your lies.

That was cold! I thought that I was the only one to get talked to like that around here!;)

For the record, I know the history behind this - it was about as good as the thread on who your least favorite poster is.

I'll pass. What happened to the mrpaige, that was quoted by others when Elvis Costello was getting upset (in another one of my threads - the Tennessee Titans), that was one of the nicest people on this BBS?;)

Seriously, it was funny to read the back and forth between you and kirkit on GWB and his "alleged" quotes. I could tell that you were getting exasperated with the guy!:D

It must be the Plano air (I've moved since recently) that's made me more surly.

And there are just some people who get under my skin. I call it the Ted Syndrome. Some issues and some posters just push the right buttons at the right time. And then I get obsessed about it. Most of the time I don't care. It's just an every once in a while thing.

I'm sure I'll be back to normal in no time.

Why are Muslims so bent against the United States?

Because we're a pretty much Christian nation that won't let the Arabic muslims annihilate the Jews. That's it in a nutshell. Everything else is just an excuse.

But on another level, they are "bent" against the US because they are taught to be "bent" against the US. Not all, but many of them are taught to hate us from day one.
