I wouldn't even go that far. Mags looks like he's 20 times slower than he was when he made the all star game.

Salary Cap is overrated IMO. Full of cap-space with a bunch of rookies is not a way to build Championship as experiences in Orlando & Chicago are anything to go buy. Beside, I still think Kidd has couple of good years down the tank, and more than viable for the duration of his span. Of course, overpaying quite a bit for earlier contribution isn't ideal, but it might still be better than the alternative.

The Nets are stupid. All they need is a few quality big men to be a contender in the East and they're tearing the team apart.

I wouldn't call them stupid for trying to trade their star players. I DEFINITELY think they're stupid if they get pennies on the dollar for Carter or Kidd or both. Even Philly made out decent with Joe Smith's expiring contract and Andre Miller. A combination of Mihm/Brown/Farmar just reeks of ankle-grabbing.

If Thorn is the capable GM that I'm giving him credit for, a trade to GS for:

    Matt Barnes
    Jason Richardson
    Zarko Cabarkapa

sounds more reasonable (and yes, it works at realgm)

Might sound outlandish but Jason Richardson became expendable when they traded for Harrington and Jackson. Throw in Baron Davis' knack for shooting and Monta Ellis' growth, JRich and his contract would be better off moved. Matt Barnes would of course sweeten the deal. Zarko is cap fodder. Of course GS would want to unload Foyle before they would JRich, but I think this is one of those situations where moving JRich won't be so bad. A backcourt of Kidd and Davis at the 2 would be great for Nellie Ball.

Golden State with Kidd would make a pretty good push for the playoffs and I would give them a good chance at catching that 8th seed. Of course, that don't mean squat getting an 8th seed but that they would have 2 years (until Kidd's a FA) to actually make some noise. If not, they just got under the cap (or somewhere near that) in 2 years...which gives them flexibility to resign Ellis, etc.

    As for the Nets...

Even in the event that Vince Carter don't get traded and bolts via FA, the Nets still have a better team with a GS trade than one that they would have if they were to trade with the Lakers.

    Krstic
    Rent-A-PF
    Jefferson
    Richardson
    Marcus Williams
    6th man-Barnes

Which, in the East, wouldn't be a powerhouse but I don't see how, barring long term injuries, they couldn't make at least the 4th seed.

    Just my .02
