I was wondering if you guys though if it was necessary to give a written notice or would a verbal two week notice do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Cool, I quit a week ago. The 2-week limbo is kind of nice. Everyone's asking me to stay, so I get a little ego-massage; and no one gives me any new work, so it's pretty stress-free. I gave written notice. I wrote a letter, folded it up, and handed it to my boss as I was telling her I was leaving. Verbal is probably sufficient, but writing it down isn't too hard either. Of course, you can't say you were misunderstood if you later regret quitting.
I would give a written two week notice and keep a copy. That way if anyone later tries to lie or rumor about how you quit you have the proof.
I had to ask the same thing a few weeks ago. I also asked my HR representative what to do. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=123588
Give a written notice via email to your superior and tell him it's your 2-week (or whatever) notice and if he wants to talk, to set up some time. That way there is a history of you sending the notice. If you really hate it that bad, cc HR on it, too. LOL.
I think it depends on what kind of job you have. If you're working at a smaller place in the service sector and are on good terms with your boss verbal is probably OK. Otherwise go with a written / emailed notice.
give 'em your two weeks in writing. It's more professional so when you need a reference they won't say you just left them in a bind. Paper trails clear up confusion.
Hey you were not the only one doing this today.........I just turned mine in to. I always give it to them verbally (personal thing to do), and follow it up with an official letter (or hand it to them after telling them).
I've always gone with a letter and verbally tell them as I'm handing them the letter. Just felt more professional to me. Then I went and peed in the coffe pot.
