$480 is just as much as the PS3, plus the PS3 comes with a blu-ray drive. You have to pay an extra $200 for the 360 equivalent. Additionally, the PS3's hard drive is easy to interchange, because it uses models that are normally used for computer, you can get a hard drive cheap and just replace the one inside the PS3.
The PS3 right now is basically a $600 blu-ray player. There isn't **** out for it, alteast nothing worth buying it for. 360 has the games, the content and the price. PS3 is super lame right now.
It seems like the PS3 might start getting a nice flow of games in the next month or so, similar to what the Xbox 360 got last year around this time (when GRAW and Oblivion came out...Oblivion might actually be a good reason to get a PS3 this time around too actually). Some nice exclusives (MotorStorm, VF5 for now, F1, etc.), some upgraded ports of games already released (Oblivion, Splinter Cell, etc.), and some nice downloadable titles (flOw, Tekken 5: DR, maybe MKII online, etc.). Probably nothing AAA like God of War or Final Fantasy (though Phil Harrison loves promoting MotorStorm...not that I blame him), but some nice content for those that might have been considering a PS3 purchase anyway. Plus, I can't forget the PS3's killer app that will help it sell 20M systems just by itself...no, not FF, MGS, Killzone, or GOW. I'm talking about Super Rub-A-Dub. Not that any of this is on-topic, but whatever. If MS makes great use of the 120GB HDD (more game features, more digital content ala IPTV, bigger XBLA game sizes, etc.), then that could be a great deal and a very good move. Otherwise, it is probably a bit overpriced and not of much help.
That's short-sighted, but I guess that's good to go on if you're an early adopter. If I own a 360 since the first year, then I'd be worried about Microsoft is releasing upgrades that will split up its userbase. They're pretty much giving Sony an excuse to release one general SKU at 500-550 dollars. I have to add that MS execs have their heads shoved far up their asses to think that they're winning because of the superiority of their product and not the lower price tag.
Fall of Man is a 9 out of 10 game that has great online support and never gets old. Need for speed Carbon is a 8+ game. Virtual Fighter came out in Japan this week and took the top spot in sales. It is set to release next tuesday in the states and should add to a growing PS3 library. The date on everyone's mind is March 5th because MOTORSTORM is coming out. It's a really unique racer with 4 wheelers, semis, dirtbikes, dune buggies all racing on off road "tracks" that varry in turrain and natural obstacles. You are just a Sony Hater. Just as bad as a fan boy. The 360 has it's good points but if you are going to speed 500 you should be buying the PS3. With a chipset that should puch the price above the 1000 mark the PS3 has far greater potential than the 360. It does not take long to get a solid library. Don't hate.
Not that this matters much, but VF5 sales in Japan were pretty bad. It did top the charts, but that just means everything else sold even worst. A really bad week actually. I didn't expect huge numbers from VF5 for a number of reasons, but I expected better than what it ended up doing. Maybe I underestimated how strongly the arcade version is doing or something (arcade version seems to have more features for some stupid reason). Not to discredit VF5 though. From all indications, it seems like a really awesome game (though it could have been better if AM2/Sega weren't stubborn I guess), and it certainly looks amazing IMO. After seeing Tekken 6 recently, I guess I'm even more impressed with the visuals...although I'm also more depressed about Namco's next-gen abilities and the fighting genre in general. I expected great things from Namco, Team Ninja, and others, but I've been pretty disappointed in them all (as far as visuals go anyway). Poor Namco...
I never had those problems either. Never over heated or had to wait a year for a good game to come out. GoW, Lost Planet and Crackdown are very good games and they came out within months of each other. But, if you consider RPGs and other extremely nerdy games to be the only "good games", then I guess you have a semi~point. Its all about preference.
If i had a 360 I would be upset that there is a new version out. I'm not sure how you could MOD an old one to be in line with the new. It has a new chipset that allows rendering in full 1080p digital signal with an acompaning hdmi output.
If the only change in the new model is 1080p, then I'm not upset at all. My HD only supports up to 1080i anyways. And by MOD, I'm sure he meant modding his original 360 to play burnt games. Which is not a bad idea because you basically get the best of both worlds.
Yea very few people have 1080p tvs. I'm not sure anyone can tell a differencel between the digital HDMI and the analong components at the lower resolutions.
I disagree with chow_yun_fat, but you kind of proved his point with those examples. The games you listed came out after the 360 had been out on the market for about a year. The games I mentioned earlier (GRAW and Oblivion), and some of the games that came out a few months before Gears (Dead Rising, Saints Row, etc.) prove your point better IMO.
