Giuliani will get destroyed by the bible-thumping, divorce-hating, gay-fearing religious right wing of the Republican party.

To think Rudy and Hillary are my prefered candidates.

    And I don't support Jr's war.

Remember....Jr's war is a mess primarily because of the chimp running it. An interventionalist foreign policy doesn't necessarily mean "B Like W."

I also thought that the IDEA was a good one. But saying the execution (no pun intended) was bad is the understatement. I think Giuliani can do it better. No doubt.

Big time! He doesn't get paid a hill of beans for being mayor...not like he needs it, btw.

I don't think so. His 9/11 performance makes him immune to these. Plus, even the hard core social conservatives don't think McCain can win. Then why shouldn't they put money on him? At least he promised he will appoint anti-abortion judges to the Supreme Court.

I am also voting for Giuliani because he is going to piss off those bible-thumping, divorce-hating, gay-fearing religious right wingers of the Republican party. :)

He isn't going to change his stripes. He is talking "Republican". But he is to the center and left on most issues.

Anyways, Republican usually means pro-business and fiscally conservative. Strong on defense...well, at least it use to be.

Maybe he can bring that back.

Hillary will support anything that will get her votes, It is very obvious that she has gone right twords the middle to be percieved as a moderate dem so we will see how it plays out come primary time.

FYI, a Rudy/McCain or a McCain/Rudy ticket would not lose to anyone.

I lived in NY before during and after 9/11. I didn't like him before, but on most things I could laugh him off. He did a fine job with9/11. I can't stand his policies that he's expressed currently.

    Rudy supports Bush's Iraq plans.

He does have faults, Blade. But if you live here for a while, you can't deny that he brought the city back. This city SUCKED to the point where I cried like a baby when my mom told me 17yrs ago that we are coming here.

The worst images went through my mind. Now, I can't imagine living/working anywhere else. Giuliani deserves all the credit for that. I think he can bring America back to pre-Iraq War stature.

The Iraq idea was not that bad. The monkeys that ran it..hell, I am sure you and I could of done it better!

He supports Bush's Iraq plans but he also criticized his missteps in recent interviews. I think he is implying he can do a better job. I think majority of Americans agree with him on that. So his Iraq position won't hurt him much.

I guess the problem here is that is Iraq salvagable? If not, then the the most moral thing to do is to get out now.

The 2008 election will be the first I am eligible to vote in. My vote, as of now, is going to Rudy.

Disagree... Before this administration, I wholly supported this idea but after watching the Republican Congress and Party totally sell out to the political interests of the administration at the expense of the national interest and the democratic values sanctified by 2 centuries of hard work by people of all parties, I cannot and will not for a Republican for dogcatcher until they take back their party from the autocrats. Until that occurs, any vote for any Republican in any election is an affirmation of what has occured in the past 6 years.

If Rudy heads the ticket would you consider that a sign of the party being taken back from the autocrats?

Most NY Republicans are social liberals, equal rights for gays, pro-choice, embryonic stem cell research. etc. That's the reason they are elected in NY, Bloomberg also (use to be a Democrat). Rudy did a great job as mayor with the exception going insane over a couple of issues like trying to get paintings removed from a public gallery and such.

If he stays socially liberal he would certainly get a lot Democrat and Independent votes but if he changes position to win the Republican primary he is going to have problems. I just can't see how anyone who voted for Bush could support Rudy because of his social issue positions.

Also there is plenty to attack Rudy on with his divorce and living with a woman while mayor and such.

    It'll be fun.

Republicans can be pretty accepting of divorce and living with other women and the such as long as it's their guy...and he has a chance to win.

    Ronald Reagan wasn't a choirboy.

Most of the Rudy attacks about his personal life are coming from the Left.

I won't deny that the city improved while he was mayor. The city also improved while Dinkens was mayor, or that the entire nation improved over that time period.

I don't hate Rudy. I don't disagree with him on everything. He doesn't deserve all the credit for improving NY, but he does deserve some.

I do disagree with him regarding Iraq.

There's the rub. I know a lot of Democrats and Independents who liked McCain until he started sucking up to the Religious Right, changing his positions to please the crowd. If Rudy does that on social issues, the same will happen to him. For me, his stand on Iraq is enough to prevent me from voting for him. If the Republican Party nominates the guy, however, and he hasn't tossed his positions on social issues, then I would take it as a good sign. Few things would please me more than a swing towards moderation in the GOP, and I'm a Democrat. This extreme polarization of the country, and the lying to the American people, the total selling out to special interests by this government, and the previous Congress, has got to stop. For the good of the country.
