People need to remember that we didn't trade Rudy Gay away. We traded away the #8 draft pick.

Yes, Gay is a potential star level player, but we do not have time to wait him grow up. Besides we need a versatile player who can play PF/SF/SG and have the ability to stop the opponent's most powerful offensive weapon. Battier is the definite and probably only choice for us. So no matter how well Gay is playing now, there was no doubt that we had to trade him then.

I think it was Tracy (?) who said it best, when he stated that he, Yao, and us fans don't have time for Rudy Gay to develop. They want a ring now, and I think we could use a little Clutch City III as soon as possible. If we don't win with Battier, then we can regret it.

It takes 5, it takes five guys...

battier is a perfect team player who has the skill and personality--(very important and can't be taught) to contribute with out whining. He doesn't give out pretty numbers like T mac and he aint' no European Tmac, but his presence can change a lot of things.

remember rudy gay always draw charges and shane battier has 0 assist.... OH wait, i made a mistake, rudy is the one who has 0 assist.... :p

don't be fooled by numbers alone, do you know that shawn bradly has better rebound stats than yao?

you are not a fool, are you?

The Rudy Gay trade will go down as one of the worst trade in the NBA history.
If we had Rudy Gay instead of Battier, we would have sucked so hard now, just like the Grizz, that we would be leading the Greg Oden sweepstake. Then after 3 consecutive years of major suckitude, we would have a new Tmac in Rudy Gay, and a new Yao in Oden, and a few other lottery picks along the way. Hell, we should start rebuilding and trade Yao or Tmac or both for the second and third pick, and we can have a line up of Gay Oden Durant Noah, and in a few years that would be a dynasty. Screw win now, we fans are dying for win later.

Just kidding, incase someone forgot their sarcasm meter at home

you want to argue that gay will be better in the future, fine, but to suggest he'd have anywhere near the impact on this team that shane battier has had so far this season is absolutely insane.

it's not even debateable. rudy gay would be lost on this team defensively as a rookie just like he is in memphis and his shooting percentage leaves a whole lot to be desired.

He is a treat in this league and will be dominant more if he will only be around a bunch of good supporting cast. But we need Battier's presence now on this team to run for championship. Could care less on CD's decision on the trade.

    GO ROCKETS!

Yay, yet another zero assist performance by Rudy Gay. Scores career high and Grizz lose handily again.

Why the hell is this thread in GARM again?

Please stop this Rudy ''future star'' etc crap/threads. First like other people said so many times before, the rockets wouldn't have drafted Rudy. Second if the Rockets didn't have Shane they would have a worse record then they have now. Third i'm glad brandon Roy wasn't available anymore.

It is so annoying that people arguing on someone who has never been even a rocket.

The title of the thread is "Rudy Gay has been playing well".
Maybe i should start a thread "Richard Jefferson is injured" and talk about RJ who we drafted for the Nets and wonder how much better he is than Eddie Griffin. RJ/Gay = another guy we drafted then traded in a loser's team.

Seriously guys, Gay has never been, is not and will never be a rocket.
Battier is much better as a player than Gay and he suits perfectly the Rockets.

It is much easier to find scorers than it is to find the right role players in this league. Battier fits our needs. Gay would be redundant in our system, just like T-mac was when he was with Carter in Toronto. You know, the Spurs do the very same thing. Majority of their players are not so called franchise players, but just happened to be very good players... names such as Tony Parker, Ginobli, and Bruce Bowen may sound familiar. I would say Battier fits in as one of those as well.

Rudy Gay = Playing Well in a support role without much being asked of him.
Shane Battier = Glue of the #1 Defense in the league

I agree, but like I said when the trade went down, the rockets don't need battier to make the playoffs. I know alot of people will argue that they wouldn't be in without him, but the fact is tracy mcgrady playing arguably the best ball of his career since yao's injury is the reason the rockets are in the playoffs. battier has played well, but you'll notice that you don't see a lot of those 82games stats in this thread. its because his effectiveness according to those stats isn't as great as exaggerated in this thread.

I'm not arguing that battier hasn't played well, or even that he isn't best for them right now. to paraphrase a famous orator, battier is who we thought he was. but just a couple of weeks ago a thread popped up about this trade because gay hit a rough spot and battier was playing well. there were no "beating a dead horse" posts in that thread. but I digress. the point is the jury is still out and the test of battier's worth will come in the playoffs.

Rudy Gay is leading his team to the prize.......Greg Oden. He needs to do a better job of never passing the ball though. That might cause winning. :D

battier has been doing well but i think you guys are all overestimating how well he is doing and how bad rudy gay would have done here if was in a rox uniform.

and i dont care if the rockets were never going to draft him for the 30 people that said that in this thread that would have been there mistake considering EVERYBODY here was jumping up and down when he dropped to us and then we actually picked him.

i think one good thing that is overlooked is we got rid of swift the guy for the most part sucked. but i still think things could be pretty good if gay would have ended up here.
