I bought a 55 inch Sony rear projection Lcd a few weeks back and the sales guy told me I needed this HDMI cable, now I signed up for Directv and when the guy was putting it in he said that the cable would make it better but we did not need it because direct had it's own HD cables. What do ya'll think? 100 bucks return, use, keep? Also I am running out of time if I want to buy the extended warrinty for 4 years what do ya'll think? It's around 275 with tax tv was 1,500 + tax
return it. the $100 one *MIGHT have slightly better quality, but I can guarantee you won't notice the difference.
I'm looking into DirecTv...Does it come with free cables? What is the cost of the package your getting and what does it come with. btw, take the cables back...
One more thing, if you're gonna get satellite for HD, you're much much much beter off with DishHD, DirecTV's HD programming is sparse at best. DishHD probably has the most robust offering of HD channels.
kan, im assuming directv gave u some free component cables. the component cables are fine. hdmi is slightly better. plus the other good thing is that its just 1 cable not 3 colored ones. so it takes up less space. I have the same tv as you (50inch version of the KDFE2000). don't pay $100 for the hdmi cable. you can get them for cheap online at monoprice.com or you can just go to fry's and get some $20 hdmi cables. i didnt buy the warranty. dont forget to set your color settings. the default is terrible. I'll post you what my settings are later.
Cables yes, HD/DVR reciever no. With rebate 200 bucks for the HD/DVR box + 5 bucks to rent regular boxes for each room. My package with Tax cost around $93 I have my HD/DVR box, two room boxes, all, HBO, Starz, Showtimes, FSN's, Sports pack which includes ESPN U, CSTV, MSG, NBA TV many others + Golf, tennis anf NFL were allready in the package. I don't get cinemax (three channels) and I don't pay for NFL, NBA or other seasonal packages at this point. It's a better deal than cable and other than the HD/DVR box all equipment was free.
thanks, I will take it back and look into a cheaper one if space is the issue. I did change my settings but yeah let me know yours
well im not at home, but on the avsforum, this dude seems to have spend some time tweaking his settings: Interesting, i have my set calibrated by DVE and slight modification using a THX optimizer to the settings below... Auto Iris 2 Picture 91 Brightness 55 Color 49 Hue 0 Warm 1 ( i notice that others have neutral or cool, but I have found that this setting allows the best color and hue when tested with DVE, and from what I have read is closest the to the 6500kw color temperature intended for home theater.) Sharpness = 0 but (this setting does not seem to affect anything whether 0 or 100) this has puzzled me. Advanced Settings all OFF. if you guys don't know about the AVSFORUM, these dudes are the CLUTCHFANS of HDTV. This is the official Sony E2000 thread : http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=687072
thanks, and thanks to anyone else. I am getting out of the dark age thanks to BigM and the other posters on here
Picture Mode: Custom Auto Iris 1 Picture 88 Brightness 54 Color 48 Hue G1 Neutral Sharpness 20 Advanced Settings: off for everything except GAMMA (low)
hey tinman....thanks for helping w/the tv advice last month do you have any idea when the new 2007 tv's are gonna come out? that samsung i was looking at with the LED bulbs said April....when do the new models usually come out? Or is it different every year?
Return it. Don't buy the warranty. My dad used to work at Ciruit City and he said its pointless unless you intend to mess up your tv. Directtv is cool but it goes out when it rains.
Like in previous similar threads, I agree. The difference in the cheap cables and the good ones is the quality of the metal instead of the name. Even then the difference isn't noticeable to many people. Also, if you have Costco membership, I would get my TV from there.
oh i forgot to mention i have time warner. the settings should still be fine for directv or dish. but tweak the contrast and color if you think people dont look right.
well they are leaning toward the LED bulbs cause its better than the color wheel. I think the only other new thing for tvs people can afford (not the pioneer elite plasmas) is the hdmi 1.3 standard. supposedly more bandwith for better color etc. but you need an hdmi 1.3 device (hd dvd, bluray) plus a hdmi compatible receiver, plus some really nice speakers. other than that, 1080p tvs are showing up. nothing really too exciting for tvs. however the cool thing is that wireless hdmi stuff. you can send high quality video to your tv and have zero wires. still early, but i see that as the next big thing.
