Awesome. Finally, an end to the "can we package player X with the TE for superstar Y" questions.

    I'd like a counter.

does it matter? If a deal is gonna be done it will be done at a reasonable hour....not butt thirty in the morning.

    As Flavor Flav would say.......WOOOOOOOOOWWW!

Trade deadline is 22nd. We probably will let the trade exception expire - you are right Dakota.

CD is not freak'n Ishia Thomas. He's not going to make a deal just to make a deal. If they don't use it, its not because he hasn't tried. It's because there is nothing out there worth it.

An article that came out a few hours ago.

The Houston Rockets will be faced with an unusual – and welcome – problem before they break for All-Star weekend. They’re actually going to have too many healthy bodies and they’ll have to decide who gets to sit and watch. Kirk Snyder’s return to the lineup on Saturday gave the team an enormous lift, but now that Bonzi Wells is about to return to action – again – head coach Jeff Van Gundy will have to decide how best to proceed.

Will he give the minutes to Wells, who is more familiar with the current rotation, or will he go with Snyder, who is dying to stay out on the court?

Early indications seem to be that Van Gundy will put Wells back in front of Snyder when they’re both healthy, but how long will that last? Wells came into the season out of shape and he has never really gotten back into NBA condition. As a result he continues to struggle with ongoing injuries and has been in and out of the Rockets lineup.

There’s also the little matter of the Rockets’ trade exception, which will expire on the 22nd if not used before then. Could the Rockets use the exception, possibly along with a trade, to shore up the tenuous front line? Yao Ming won’t be back for at least a month, and then it will take him a while to get back into playing shape. What happens if Dikembe Mutombo, who has been playing through significant pain due to tendonitis in his knees, suddenly can’t go? The Rockets’ entire season hinges on their center position, and it would seem prudent to add one more piece.

It won’t be Eddie Griffin, as some reports have suggested. It also won’t be the ancient (and gutless) Clifford Robinson. But what about someone like Jamaal Magloire or PJ Brown? Both have been mentioned in numerous deals and could probably be had for peanuts. If the Rockets were to package Wells with their trade exception that could make a deal for Magloire work. Magloire makes roughly the same as Brown, and both have expiring contracts. The Rockets could take on one of those contracts, send out a contract they’re not particularly crazy about, and still be under the cap this summer.

Kirk Snyder is a workhorse. Has been from day one. He wants to earn a spot in the rotation and in the league. With Snyder you get no drama, just hard work – something that Jeff Van Gundy appreciates and rewards. This is a young man with tremendous upside and an outstanding attitude. In Wells the Rockets have an unknown quantity who often offsets his positive contributions on the court with his negative contributions off the court.

The Rockets don’t have to have a deal, which truly gives them the upper hand in any discussions that might come up with regards to the trade exception. They have a nice collection of talent which, when you add Yao Ming, is definitely a threat to win a championship. There are question marks, as there are on every team in the league, but the team really doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses when everyone’s healthy. No deal is necessarily needed, but if the right one falls into Carroll Dawson’s lap he’ll give it serious consideration.
    Team Notes

    * Houston Rockets Yao Ming visited the Chinese Community Center in recognition of Lunar New Year on Monday. In addition to meeting with members of the board, Yao Ming spent time talking to more than 90 students enrolled in the center's after school program about Lunar New Year traditions. The highlight for students was playing on Rockets interactive inflatable games and shooting free-throws with Yao Ming.

    * With a 104-83 win on Saturday the Rockets took their first-ever season sweep of the Bobcats. The two teams split the series in 2005-06, and Houston was the only team Charlotte swept in its inaugural season of 2004-05. The Rockets won the first game this season, 92-62, at Charlotte (12/8/06), giving Houston a 25.5 average margin of victory in its two wins over the Bobcats in 2006-07.

    * Houston scored 32 points off an opponent season-high 27 turnovers by Charlotte. The previous high for turnovers was 22 by the Mavericks in Houston's 107-76 win vs. Dallas (11/4/06).

    * The Rockets have dropped only seven games this season by a double-digit margin, including last night's 95-74 loss at Dallas (2/9/07). Houston has now responded to those seven double-figure losses with a 6-1 record in the following games, including a 31-point win vs. Dallas (11/4/06), a 28-point victory vs. Minnesota (2/5/07) and tonight's 21-point win. The lone loss came vs. Phoenix (1/17/07), which the Rockets played without the services of both Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.

that sucks, i really hope we can use TE and Sura's contract to acquire a decent backup PG and Center-Forward. (We can pack Bonzi and sura together if needed, since we have Snyder already)

This guys seems, new or stupid...or both. A few things wrong with this article
    - Our trade exception doesn't expire on the 22nd.
    - You can't trade a player with a TE

    FYI:

The Charlotte Bobcats were finalizing a trade Tuesday morning, and there were initial indications it would involve power forward Melvin Ely going to the San Antonio Spurs.

Ely is playing on a one-year 3.3 million contract and has requested a trade that would allow him more playing time, sources said. The Bobcats tied him to that 1-year qualifying offer last summer in hopes of dealing him.

The team has an abundance of other options at the position, including lottery pick Emeka Okafor and Sean May.

It was not initially available what the Spurs would be giving up for Ely.

I guess Melvin Ely is off the market. I really thought we would consider him!
