I have thought, and read others that seem to think Griffen needs to add more bulk and can not step in and play this year. I am having a change of thoughts on this. Garnett came into the league at the same age out of high school [now listed at 6 11, & 220lbs], Griffen has a year of college and is listed at 6 9 and 220. Garnett in his first season played in 80 games, averaged 29 minutes a game, got 6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 10.4 points. If Thomas adds to those totals it should be all we need out of the 4 spot. We do not have to have a lot of scoring, if we get defense and rebounds, now that we have Rice. Thought I would throw this out, I just think Griffen should be as good his first season as Garnett was.
My thoughts exactly. Those are the same numbers Joe Smith posted pretty much, 14pts 8reb 2blks, for a 19yr old. What he can get in experience could be invaluable. I've said it once before that when taylor comes back, he'll be on bench patrol for a year the traded the next. This is a guy whom when they asked the coaches if you had the number 1 who would you take, they said Griffin. Griffin will be our 20-10-2.5 blk manthat we have been looking for since Hakeem left. Write it down, Taylor and Cato sign &trade for Duncan in 2003.
The Rockets may be the perfect fit for Eddie Griffin. With Mobley and Francis able to relieve any pressure that might have normally fallen on Griffin's shoulders, expectations will be more on them rather than Eddie's. Eddie should be able to roam freely and do as he pleases. I expect his first year role to be similar to a garbageman player's role. He will have a few plays that will run exclusively for him, but otherwise, he will be left to utilize his athleticism and defensive skills to move around and help the team however he can. I look for his second year to be significantly better. He will be used to the defenses and the style of play. Can't wait...
Not to mention that KG has grown about 4 inches since he entered the league (i think from 6'10 to 7'2)...maybe Eddie has some inches left in him as well
I am in total agreement. Why can't EG be the next KG? I say play him at least 24 minutes per game. We will need it.
KG is like 7'1. Is good as he is, he is still not filled out like you would want him to be. Here's the problem that the Rockets will have now, Glen Rice will have to check him now since they signed Joe Smith.
Kevin Garnett is a legit 7-2. And I hope Griffin is another Garnett in his rookie year this year. Because if he is, we are a lock to get to the playoffs and do some damage!
Not to burst your bubble, but I posted the same thing ove 2 months ago, but somehow mixed up his first year stats. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11791 Anyway, I agree. EG could have the potential to be as good as KG.
