I'm turning 30 soon, and have been noticing for the past year or two, I have not been as quick to remember old things or converting short term memory to long term memory. Is this normal? Personally it scares me to death. I just don't feel as sharp mentally and my typing (motor skills, hand eye coordination) has gotten really bad since last year.

For those of you who are around 30 or older, is this normal?

like i used to be able to spot a guy in a movie and pinpoint where I saw him first or I could hear one line from some obscure song and I'd know it instantly, nowadays I have to do some searching in my brain first to recall it. it's gotten so bad I'm actualy seriously considering taking Ginseng

Sounds like the opposite of Alzheimer's. When she first started showing symptoms of Alzheimer's, my grandma could tell you what she ate at her wedding over fifty years ago, yet couldn't remember what she had for breakfast that morning.

Before we put her in an old folks home, I used to take my grandma grocery shopping every two weeks or so. Every time we went grocery shopping, she would get a box of cereal. I just figured she really liked cereal. When we were cleaning out her apartment, there were about 20 boxes of cereal in her cabinets...

I'm not as mentally focused as I used to be, but I chalk that up to brain-atrophy from working with a bunch of idiots. Actually, in my mid- to late 20s, I developed some sort of cognitive problem where I would repeatedly say "cucumber" when I meant "carrot" and vice versa. That one was the most common for me, but there were a couple of word-sets I got mixed up where they started with the same first letter and were in the same category of thing. It made me worried that my brain was messed up (in some trivial way), but the problem has subsided since then.

I'm 26 this year, and long-term memory loss is already setting in big-time.. I can't even remember anything that happened before I turned seven, and any memories from before the age of 10 are seriously fuzzy. Is this normal? Do I have early-stage Alzheimer's?? :(

It all depends on how much weed you smoke.

I'll be 46 in a couple of weeks, I smoke weed several times daily, and I've never had a problem remebering, er, uh, remembering, umm, er....I forgot what I was trying to remember!

    ;) :D

My mind is still strong it is just my body that has been destroyed (although that started in my 20's, really). The cumulative effect of physical breakdowns (internal and external) have been the most devastating things I have ever dealt with and start to change you in other ways (avoiding late nights or fun activities because I am worried about suffering).

JV - I had a period in my mid 20's or so where I always said "green" when I meant "orange" and vice versa. It was really odd, "hey - look at that crazy green tennis ball...most people don't use those" types of things. Fortunately that passed.

Memory is entirely different for me and not really a guage of age. I have always been forgetful about the little things in life (where my keys are or if I just took a pill from the bottle in front of me) but I can still remember whole lectures from college (which is why I never bothered taking notes) or little facts I read in 1986.

I stopped drinking and it got better.

Then I got a few pets and lost sleep and am back at square 1.

    What did you ask again?
