The coach of the year usually goes to a team that wasn't one of the top 4 the year before but got there this year. Think about it, last year it went to Dallas, the year before Pheonix. For both teams that was the year they first were considered a top 4 team. Houston should get it this year unless we just collapse somehow with Yao Ming.

JVG has 0 chance of winning coach of the year.

Basically because he has alot of talent and the voters won't look at time Tmac and Yao were hurt because at all times we had at least 1.

Its a 2 man race: Jerry Sloan and Phil Jackson and in my opinion Sloan deserves it. Sloan made the Jazz worth talking about this year, honestly how many people can say they thought Jazz would be any better than 6-8 seed or have any chance to win that division, people were guessing Nuggets or maybe even the Wolves, but no way the Jazz.

See only reason why Sam Mitchell has chance is because team is FAR BETTER than expectations. Thats what coach of year has to do to win. If it was just team with most wins in best conference Avery Johnson would win it easily, but it is about getting the most out of your squad and Sam Mitchell definately is.

BTW: How much better can a GM be than Colangelo does that guy know how to build a team or what. He deserves every penny he recieved from Toronto and more. Genius (at least for the Season maybe not Post Season :D )

I'll 1 up that. I, a professed JVG Hater (hate is such a strong word) have to acknowledge this team is playing very well considering all the injuries. I've disagreed with his rotations yet he has mostly proven to be right. Alston and Howard are stepping up when I would have traded them before and the teams defense is the best in the league. So yes he has done and above average job and if he keeps it up he should be a serious contender and at this juncture I would give him my vote. I would only add their are a lot of ways to skin a cat and although his is definitely working it sometimes seems more painful to the cat than it has to be.

How does phil Jackson deserve it over JVG?

JVG took an injury riddled team from last year that won 34 to an injury riddled team this year that's on pace for 55 wins...

Still that does not put Sam Mitchell ahead of JVG. Toronto is playing in the worst division in the NBA and in the eastern conference. Their division is pretty much free-for-all. Nobody expected the rockets to win this much when Yao went down. JVG did a great job of getting the players to believe his system and that they still have enough to keep winning. And oh, JVG's team has the best defense in the league.

If Jazz has better record than Rockets by end of the season, Sloan deserves it more. Rox has 2 superstar, tmac is playing. Jazz has 1 superstar at best in boozer who's only gotten great this year(AK-47 is super overrated, he's not even an all-star caliber player now) and he's out with injury and they are still playing good right now.

I don't think he has, but look at who wins Coach of the Year. It is teams with less talent and making it work for them. Rockets have ALOT of talent mostly in 2 superstars, when you have that the voters don't look at alot of the injury time and stuff. Watch JVG get completely looked over.

Phil Jackson gets alot of talk because people expected lakers to barely make playoffs and they have been very solid.

    Um..no...

    You should say...

If Global Warming is JVG's fault, why should he be allowed to coach the Rockets if he also caused the dinasaurs to become extinct?

Saying that, Coach has done a great job. But being fair, that coach in NYC...forgot his name...but he has his team playing better. If they make the playoffs, that would be a miracle with that rag tag bunch. I would say he should be considered...can't think of his name.

Also, the coach in Washington (really can't think of that name) has the team playing good and they have Gilbert Arenas and....yea, thats about it.

I think some will penalize our Coach for having T-Mac. I don't think that if T-Mac gets really considered for MVP people people will also throw in COY. I never seen that before.

It's cold as hell in Maryland and it's going to snow tomorrow, I don't about global warming , but it feels like an ice age where I'm at. ... So it's all JVG's fault for causing all these misery :D

Right now, I'd say it's between JVG, Jerry Sloan and Avery Johnson. Anyone who thinks Sam Mitchell is even a contender is delusional. When you compare the seasons of the Rockets and Lakers, clearly JVG is in front of Phil Jackson.

Between those 3, I can't make up my mind. If the Mavs end up winning 65+ games and finish 10 games in front of the Rockets, Avery Johnson should get the award hands down IMO. Going 42-5 after the 0-4 start is sensational. In that stretch, they were clobbered only ONE game (in Utah) and haven't lost 2 in a row. That kind of consistency with today's NBA schedule is incredible.

The Jazz's reaction to Boozer's injury is what makes Sloan a contender. Even with AK47 popping off at the mouth, the Jazz have put together a great season even though they stumbled a bit last month.

Obviously JVG has done a great job. Some people still blame him for all the bad and give him no credit for the good. I doubt he's the frontrunner for coach of the year, but he's a finalist.

My top 3 based on the season so far:

    1 AJ
    2 JVG
    3 Sloan

Sloan all the way, they really have no superstars yet can kick anyone's arse if all cylinders are clicking, they will be a tough out for anyone in the playoffs. I kinda hope they go in the Dallas bracket but haven't figured out that yet.

JVG is in a contract year...
