I actually think the best result for us is to finish in 5th spot with a better record then Utah. Hopefully we can get about 55 wins and have momentum going into the playoffs. That way we can verse the Jazz with homecourt advantage and then the mavs who i think we mathc up must better against the the suns. Correct me if im worng but i think we would verse the Mavs if we beat the Jazz from the 5th seed?
Then considering the way things look at present it would be better for them to be in Fourth. This will have to be hammered into JVGs head as he is stubborn about these things, remember last season when he insisted on going for the win and we lost our position for the draft- result we missed out on getting Brandon. Even though things turned out quite well due to the efforts of CD.
Okay, this is how it boils down. In order to gain homecourt advantage, we have to overtake either the Jazz or the Spurs (this is assuming no lower team like the Lakers or Nuggets gets on a roll and passes us). So if we: Overtake the Jazz but not the Spurs We'll end up with the 5th seed and home-court advantage against the 4th seed Jazz Overtake the Spurs but not the Jazz We'll end up with the 4th seed and home-court advantage against the 5th seed Spurs Overtake both the Spurs and the Jazz We'll end up with the 3rd seed and home-court advantage against the 6th seed (probably the Lakers). And if we don't overtake either the Jazz/Spurs We'll be the 5th seed without home-court against whoever has the lower record between the Jazz/Spurs.
the spurs and the lakers both lost. spurs are head of us with 1 game. alll we have to do is win one more game and we'll tie them. utah won 4 games in a row. without carloz boozer. i don't think we overtake them. lakers are way behind us, so i'm not worried about them. the rockets have to win the games they have to.
we are currently at the 5th spot and about 1/2 game behind the spurs, who is at the 4th. I like our chances of surpassing both jazz and spurs and get the number 3 seed. Which we would be facing the lakers and we have better matchup against them and it would be a easier task and set us ready for the second round. you don't want to play big and long games in first round and get tried.
I hope the Rockets can take both home games coming up. I am sure they will give it their all since the Allstar break is coming up. I hope to see both Bonzi and Snyder when the team plays the Mavs.
Whether we get home court or not I still feel confident that we can win a seven game series against any of the teams we are likely to play in the first round (Spurs/Jazz/Lakes).
And two years ago we could have played Seattle in the playoffs instead of Dallas if we had not finished that strong. I think once again we will be in a situation at the end of the season where it might be good to lose games to be in a better playoff position. But JVG is never going to do that.
actualy it was sacremento. they did an excellent tank job so we switch jobs. they lost to easy teams i think. i'm not sure, but either way this is this year, and we;re talking about homecourt not 5th and 6th spot
After the Sac win, Worrell said we had the same record as SA. San Antonio wins again tonight. We are back to being a full game behind SA. It seems like we can catch up to them, but fade away before overtaking them.
actually if my memory serves right the records right now stands at: utah 34-17 SA 34-18 Hou 33-18 the lakers are playing the knicks tonight and at least right now its tied in the third so figure the lakers win that game it puts them at 31-22, still three games behind us. the spurs play detroit tomorrow and the jazz have the cavs at home. best case scenario? both the spurs and jazz lose and the rockets win thursday in houston tied for third heading into the break. worse case? spurs and jazz win while houston loses. imo, most probable case? spurs lose, jazz win and the rockets lose against dallas. (damn i know we can beat them with yao too!)
Half Game back. We're equal in the loss column, but SA has one extra win on us. Also, if we beat them in our final meeting, we'll have the tiebreaker over them by winning the season series.
It would be great to get homecourt and snatch the 3rd seed, but someone mentioned 'avoiding the spurs.' Screw avoiding anyone, crush them all; I'm not happy with just getting past the first round anymore damnit! I mean if they can conserve energy by playing an easy first round then so be it, but honestly if you're gonna win the championship you're gonna have to beat the best anyway. And my won't it be more satisfying kicking the **** out of everyone ala 94-95! GO HOUSTON, GO ROCKETS, GO 111!~~
so if its the race for the third spot it goes like this team record games behind utah 34-17 ---- SA 34-18 .5 Hou 33-18 1 LAL 30-23 5 so we are a full game behind the jazz, a half game behind the spurs and 4 full games ahead of the lakers. seems like the lakers are coming back down to earth right now while houston keeps winning (and overachieving w/out yao ) both the jazz and spurs have tough games tomorrow vs the cavs and the pistons respectively we could have the fourth spot tomorrow by virtue of the tie break if the spurs lose and only by 1/2 game behind if the jazz loss as well.
I personally would LOVE if we just pass up the Spurs (and play them 1st round). Now the Spurs aren't exactly the BEST 1st round matchup for us because after all they have loads of experience, BUT think about this: 1) We match up very well vs. the Spurs and with Yao back ooooooo . 2) We get the Mavs in the 2nd round who we also match up very well with (when we are healthy). 3) Suns LIKELY get beat by the (probably) the Jazz who are 3-0 as of now versus the Suns. Suns would have to play the Nuggets and then Jazz/Lakers, and I believe all 3 teams have a CHANCE to beat the Suns setting up a fairly easy WCF for the Rockets. Oh what a great playoffs it would be if Rockets can win it this year and Shut everyone Up!
