How can you say that? He was one of the main reason we had the first win over Spurs earlier. His FT was really lousy, but even with his bad conditioning right now, he can create shots for himself with ease. Besides Yao and TMac, no one else on this team can do that.
You think? It most definitely was an aberration. He's never done that before and never will again. macfan, you are a true Rockets fan. Living in Orlando and listening to AM790 online.
What you guys have to remember is that players, especially good ones, can produce at a higher level if they take on a bigger role. That was the case for Bonzi last year. He was a big part of Sacramento. Perhaps he couldn't produce 20PTS 10REBS if that series was played again. But you can't deny that there's nobody who can defend him one on one. He's a matchup nightmare. He's too big to be defended by a guard and he's too quick (not now, but at his optimal weight ) to be defended by a big. One other thing is, he's a great passer which he's so underrated about. There's nobody the Rockets can acquire (somebody wilthout a big contract)that can provide more punch for the amount of minutes that Bonzi plays. He's still overweight. If he gets in good shape, I have no doubt he could be a key cog.
He's produced plenty considering his bad start missing 21 game in the beginning of the season. Bonzi Wells has shown he can play. That is why JVG gives him minutes. Bonzi Wells is a great offensive player. When he is on the floor (with Yao out) he is our only real post option. Turnover prone? He's turnover it a few times - but I don't think you should label him as turnover prone. V-span deserve that title. His defense actually isn't bad. If his defense is lousy - he wouldn't be able to play in JVG's team (see Novak). Bottom line, in my opinion, we suffer a huge loss with him missing this game. He's one of the only player (excluding TMAC) that can create his own shots and/or create for others (passing to wide open players when he gets doubled).
bonzi would have been crucial tonight. outside of tmac, we have no real advantages over the mavs, while they have superior talent at pretty much every position, including bench. and josh howard is a pesky defender with plenty of length to try and aggravate mcgrady. it will take a truly inspired team effort to win. with bonzi, we would at least have some kind of threat off the bench that would force the mavs to reconsider their matchups, instead of the other way around.
I just checked out the box score from the last time we played Dallas and Bonzi missed that game too. Why was he out of the line up that night? The starters will all be around 40 mins tonight unless it gets ugly early in the game. The Rockets need some bench production from a bunch of guys who never play.
so a scrub like vspan gets the benefit of the doubt even though he sucks the balls, but a proven star like bonzi gets the shaft?
I personally believe Bonzi has been pretty important in the games he's played in. His defense has actually been really good. He does turn the ball over, but nothing like Luther. Bonzi is our other post up man, so he would draw double teams leaving somebody like Luther open for an open 3.
thats bull****, why are we never healthy, why does he have to miss the big game AGAIN ahhhhhhhhhh , sometimes i just hate being a sports fan
I agree 100% percent with peanut, Bonzi has really been coming on strong these last few games, now I just hope he can get back on the court and stay healthy
No suprise for me, we can not afford to take such a risk, this is not game about "win or die". We just need all healthy rockets in playoff.
Star? Proven Star? LOL - Bonzi has been a nice complimentary player, but he has been on the decline for the last couple of years. I don't mind him playing, I WANT him to play well, but he has not done anything with the time given him...... I would love for him to be the 3rd scorer, but he has not grabbed the bull by the horns. I have laid off the V-Span debate, as it is getting tired, Bonzi has not been all that great here in Houston......or do you think he has been good? DD
Wells had a good January. He may not be as good as he was early in his career, but he's still a good second tier player when he wants to play.
