Hongkong Film. And just because it's a remake doesn't mean it can't be good, i.e. Vanilla Sky.

You gotta see The Last King of Scotland. Amazing film. I posted in the other thread that if Forest Whitaker doesn't win the best actor for his portrayal of Idi Amin- then the Oscars would be a sham.

The thing that's really pissing me off recently is all the teen horror flicks coming out every week. They won't stop being created and being horrible movies.

Agreed, it used to be only during Halloween that these movies would come out, but now it seems there is at least one every week.

Best Picture : I think Letters from Iwojima was the best of the bunch- Eastwood continues to impress me as a director- but the WWII theme is a little played out, and I'm not sure with world events as they are that it gets the nod.

The Departed was just a bunch of big names with a horribly generic storyline. I couldn't past the fact that I was watching Jack Nicholson playing a Boston crime-boss. He's reached that iconic status where in any role he plays, he's not that character- he's Jack Nicholson. It takes away from the film.

Babel's a little bit too much like Crash thematically , so I think it's down to Little Miss Sunshine or The Queen.

Best Actor: Forrest Whittaker, by default. The exact kind of performance the people voting like to reward.

Best Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin or Eddie Murphy. Djimon Hounsou has played the same stock character way too many times.

Best Actress: Judi Dench deserves it, but I think Helen Mirren gets it; she's got that Forrest Whittaker type buzz working for her right now.

Best Supporting Actress: I could generally care less, but I hope to god Jennifer Hudson doesn't win it. I might be biased since I usually want to blow my brains out when forced to watch musical oriented films, but she was just horribly one-dimensional.

Best Director: Clint Eastwood. Although I think the Babel director might win this one, since that film is bound to pick up a consolation prize in lieu of winning Best Picture.

Don't care about the others. I just hope Pan's Labryinth wins something; it's a wonderful film. I can't remember the last time two Spanish language films had a wide release like it and Volver do right now.

Anyone see Little Children? Since it's got my favorite actress and she was nominated for an Academy Award, I thought I'd at least find out what it was about only to find out it was directed by Todd Field who directed the brilliant In the Bedroom. I think we're going to go see it tonight.

And I laugh that The Departed's storyline is generic. Other than the original Hong Kong movie, how many movies have simultaneous cat and mouse games where two rats are chasing after each other? Them's fightin' words. :D

While I didn't like The Departed as much as Infernal Affairs, Scorsese will get his due...no way will the Academy give Eastwood another statue, over him...right?

Iwo Jima might win best picture (that category seems like it's really up in the air). But Scorsese should have best director sewn up. If he loses it again, maybe there is a conspiracy against him.

What movie was she in? I thinks she's aged badly. Does she still make a career out of stripping in front of the camera?

I saw Little Children last night. It is very good. It's about suburban malaise, kind of like American Beauty, but completely different.
