Is there any way we can make this thread 6 stars?

Just goes to show that there's many a slip between the cup and the lip. Let's worry about the next game before we worry about the one after.

I hope you dont seriously think that we are better with Yao or Tmac than we are with both together, thats just faulty logic.

That game was early in the season and an ill-timed meltdown. The Rockets clearly did not bring it for 4 quarters. Agree, right now we are better than the Jazz and Spurs but behind the Suns and Savs, dammit! Next two with Dallas will really give us a better indication of where we stand and where we will stand come the playoffs we need to at least win 1 of the 2 but compete and play D for ALL 4 quarters! You can't slouch on Dallas for a minute! Hopefully, we do OUR version of the Texas two-step. :D Boom sha lock lock boom!!!

I think the real difference for the Rockets is that only now do the role players and T-Mac TRULY understand what kind of performance is necessary for us to be great. Everyone knows their capabilities now, and T-mac is done nagging about his "age". Once Yao comes back, the healthy team will be different than a healthy team earlier in the season. Yao will also come back strong because he knows we've been doing well and that his backup kicks ass on the defensive side of the ball. He knows that he can't slack off and that this team's success is his responsibility.

The passion that goes into every pass in evident even in the highlight clips. These guys are playing with a face that says "I know what needs to be done to win any game, and we CAN do it with this personnel."

Even if we go .500 from this point on, we are looking at almost 50 wins. That's something to be proud of and something to build on. NO ONE (Especially our Texan foes) will want to face us in the playoffs.

hey are you guys watching the mavs game. Cause i can tell you know, they are contenders. We definantly have a long long way to go before we can call ourselves contenders and have to put in a bit better effort if we want to be identified by others as contenders.

Mehh. As I said, didn't expect to beat the Mavs, especially sans Yao. It's not about one or two games here or there. It's about the overall snapshot of the season. Go to some Mavs boards and see how they say things like "I hope we can split the last two games with Houston."

They know they can't stop Mac, and they know they can't stop Yao. They're on top of their game right now and fully healthy. They are certainly contenders and they did what a contender should do - beat a team that's missing one of its top 2 players. Just like we would whoop them hard if we had Yao and they were missing Howard.

Playoffs baby, playoffs. The Mavs know we're defensively the best and specifically unstoppeable on offense against them.

Still proud of the Rockets and still would like to face the Mavs in the playoffs.

The Mavs are the best team in the league... I did not expect the Rockets to win tonight, not because our team isn't capable of it, but because our team is banged up and their's isn't. 2 guys that would really put a hurting on the Mavs (Bonzi and especially Yao) are out and Snyder is maybe at like 50% currently and has to get back into shape. Come playoff time with a healthier team featuring the best center in the league we will be more than capable of beating any team and winning a title.

The Suns and Mavs are better than us, but they are the only two teams I am convinced are better than us and as such we deserved to be looked at as a team that will seriously contend for a title. Like I said, if we had Yao and Bonzi and we still lost so handily to the mavs I would be a little worried, but our team is banged up and theirs is completely healthy. Wait til the playoffs, that's when you're gonna see what the Rockets are really capable of.

And here's to hoping the Rockets take Dallas to the limit in the upcoming rematch of tonight's game. Dirk and company are just lucky the best center in the league is injured... and I bet they know it.

I love the fact that nobody yet has stated that unless we catch Dallas, we're not getting higher than a "4" seed.

    Maybe cause that's not true?

The top 4 seeds go to the 3 division winners and the best 2nd placed team. But NOT in that order. The order is determined by record.

So, say, we are the best second-placed team in all 3 dicisions, we are in the top 4 with (for example) Utah, Dallas and Phoenix. HOWEVER, if our record is better than Phoenix and/or Utah, we will be ranked above them.

So basically, if we catch San Antonio but not Dallas, and we have a better record than Utah, we will be 3rd.

According to Matt Bullard a few games ago, that hasn't been implemented. Please show me where you've seen this.

Well he's wrong. This has been discussed tons. Here's a quick answer for you while I search for something official:

    Standings

San Antonio are 3rd because they have a better record than Utah, division winner right now.

Rank decides matchups, and record decides who gets home court.
