The wife and I want to get away this weekend, stay in a nice hotel, have a dinner and just enjoy each other's company. I'm having a hard time deciding where to go. We've mentioned staying in town, but that almost seems like a waste to me. I've thought Lake Charles, but that's not too romantic. I'm leaning towards San Antonio because I'm craving La Fogata and have seen some interesting hotels downtown.

Gimme some ideas. I'm looking to spend no more than $200 on the room and I want a unique type of place, not your typical run of the mill hotel. A good steakhouse would be nice as well. I'm open to anything. An out of the way place, a city I would never think of off the top of my head (like Corpus). I'm not really interested in Austin or DFW either, even though Ft. Worth is underrated, but she doesn't like my old memories of that town.

    TIA.

Probably too much of a drive for you, but I nominate Hot Springs Arkansas.

Natchitoches. Tons of great Bed and Breakfasts. Nice, historic downtown and waterfront. I don't know if Hodges Gardens has re-opened, but it's really, really nice.

Yeah, too far for this weekend. We may try that at some point, though.

I'm not sure I want to drive that much in two days. If we were staying two nights, I probably would.

For a short drive, try the Galvez in Galveston.

Or, if you "do the google", you can find quite a few quaint bed & breakfasts in and around Brenham and in the lower part of the Hill Country.

Yeah, I should've said no Bed and Breakfasts. Galveston is definitely in the running.

I'd also suggest Hot Springs, AR in the future. It's a beautiful place with a decent amount of stuff to do and a TON of great eats.

That's great. Do you have your own memory of somewhere we could go this weekend?

Don't go to Kemah or you'll find out your wife cheated on you, the day after.

Oops... I'm sorry that may be just me.

The Omni in Corpus has a very good steakhouse at the top.

Rates aren't bad either. They also have different packages for couples. My wife and I did this a few years ago.
