The guy is absolutley a key to our team. He gets the offense clicking, gets everyone involved, does NOT turn the ball over, and can penetrate and dish with the best in the league. He's been getting bashed all year for his poor shooting, but that is not his game or why he's here. And still he knocks down 3s at a decent rate and can drive and score in a pinch. The bottom line is he a very solid point guard that fits our team well. And if you need any further evidence pull up the Hornets game when he got ejected the our offense was absolutley pathetic. Luther Head is NOT an option and PG and McGrady will get worn down too fast bringing the ball up. The reason our team is so good this year is b/c we finally have ROLE players that KNOW THEIR ROLE. Alston, Battier, Hayes, Head, Howard, Deke. All team guys that KNOW what their job is when they are on the floor. They may not be the most talented, but not is exactly why they are ROLE (COMPLIMENTARY) players. The guys that do NOT fit our team so well are Wells and Vspan. Both of them think they are much better than they actually are and try to do more than they are capable of doing. That's why Van Gundy keeps them on the bench more. The only reason Wells is playing more recently is b/c without Yao he is the best post player we have. You can't tell me he's in better shape now b/c he's still fat and getting hurt alot. Once Yao gets back Bonzi will be back to riding the pine!
Yao = Key to Main Gate (playoffs) Skip = Key to dining room (he serves everyone) Hayes = Key to Basement (he does the dirty work) TMac = Key to Bedroom (he seals the deal) Battier = The Key Chain (He holds things together)
i'd say rafer is great as far as doing what he has to for us to win...and vspan...not so great. bonzi has been awesome for us these past few weeks, providing some scoring punch when tmac rests. me likey
well, i think because we only have one realy PG the teams looks terrible without him. rafer does a very fine job and if he could just work on shot selection and finishing layups he'd be great.
As a critic of Rafer I'd agree that he's an important piece to this team. He does handle the ball well, and keeps the tempo/energy up. But he still needs to stop with those teardrops and go all the way to the bucket. Despite that we still need a backup PG. That was the most glaring thing about the Hornets game. As far as Bonzi goes...I'm not sure where you get off saying he's getting hurt alot? The guy is a very valuable piece to the playoff puzzle seeing that he gives you 12-15 off the bench.
It makes sense that Alston is putting up decent assist numbers when Yao is out, as everyone else needs to step up now; however, before Yao went out, Alston was even below average in the NBA PGs. It is also foreseable that Yao's comeback will shake up the way we play significantly, wonder what it would like, especially for Alston.
Jebus, you're like one of those annoying halloween novelty items which starts making noise if you get too close to it. Once it starts squawking, you can't make it stop, it just has to stop all on its own. And you immediately regret going anywhere near it.
I like pgs who don't turn the ball over, play decent defense, and have good court vision. Rafer is that. I don't like pgs who shoot an astronomical amount even though they are not good shooters. Rafer is that too. Rafer is a good point guard, and very well suited for our team; however, he needs to exercise better judgement in his shooting, as he takes way too many shots.
That's because when you have Yao and Tmac both on the floor, you can afford to let Tmac running the offense. Now with Yao out, Alston has to run the offense so that you can save Tmac some energy for late minutes. meaning that Alston's Assit number is going up.
THIS IS STUPID NOBODY HAS EVER QUESTIONED RAFER'S VALUE TO THE TEAM.....THEY QUESTION HIS SKILL!!!! we can get someone better
Hey I have been a huge Bill supporter and still a big one as of now, but in all fairness, Alston is much better than Bill right now. I wish Bill gets more time to develop but he is faaaaaaaar from the great catagory. In the 6 mins Bill played last game, he showed a lot more confidence on the floor, his ball handling/protection was excellent, and his passing was good enough, even though they didn't convert to assists but thats not his fault, however, his shooting was still horrible----with such a shooting, he is nowhere near good, not to mention great.
you make some good points about the guys knowing their role, however you don't make much sense when you talk about rafer ability and bonzi's role with the team. the key to rafer is to have him take less shots there by setting up everyone else who can shoot better than him. Take 3's only from a double team kick out or shoot when going to the hole as long as its not a tear drop. you will soon see how valuable bonzi can be in the playoffs...there is no way coach will sit him unless they have a falling out.
