Not addictive. I've smoked daily for large periods of my life. Anytime I wanted to quit I just quit. No withdraw nothing. I can smoke for days or weeks at a time then not for months. It all depends on your frame of mind and will power Cigarettes and booze are much harder to give up.
Tyreol Gardner first smoked mar1juana when he was 13. "The main reason I tried it was curiosity," Gardner recalls. "I wanted to see what it felt like." He liked what it felt like, and by age 15, he was smoking pot every week. He supported his habit with the money his parents gave him for getting straight A's on his report card. They didn't have a clue. Remember kids...smoke mar1juana and you'll get straight A's!
It's not a chemical addiction, like a craving. It's the fact that life can suck and it seems to suck less when you're stoned. The euporia, the child-like zeal for pleasureable things like music, frisbee or cheap tacos and the 'us-ness' of being one of the people who reject the status quo is a bulwark against the stress of real life like war, work and rejection. That being said, it's also extemely demotivating for people who want to or have to deal with life, jobs, family etc. I wouldn't recommend regular useage to anyone who isn't pretty much convinced that they just want to drop out and live in a van down by the river.
I call bull ****. I have a great job, wife, kids, a new house in The Woodlands and I smoke multiple times a week. I also smoked during college and I got straight A's more times than I didn't. I'm sick of people blaming weed or anything else for their own idiotic behavior and choices. Either be an adult about it or don't do it. Weed doesn't make you "drop out".
I'm still suffering withdrawal symptoms from Counterstrike. I'd hate to see what it'd be like with pot.
mar1juana can become addictive to some people that are very weak minded. But it's no where near the addictive strength of alcohol and tobacco. But from experience, no one I know has had a problem with quiting weed. I know several successful people that still get stoned on a daily basis. Believe it or not, stoners are not all lazy no good teens. Plenty of people have been able to smoke pot and still be successful at whatever they do. It's no different from people that choose to drink alcohol. Only difference is that alcohol is legal. Seriously, if it was so bad, there wouldn't be such thing as medical mar1juana going around. Oh, and if you have not heard, mar1juana is unlikely to cause lung cancer. http://www.webmd.com/content/article/23/1728_57309.htm
Sorry, but I don't believe a word you say. You sound almost exaclty like your words came directly from the drug czar himself. I have been a daily smoker for the last 14 years...never really going more than a day or 2 without it. I quit about a month ago and have had absolutely zero side effects. I still go to sleep just fine. I have had no mental or physical issues since. In those 14 years, I graduated high school and college (with 2 degrees), I've gotten married, have a great job, bought a house in Austin, and now have a child. I don't miss it...but my life has not changed at all with or without it (other than saving $100 a month).
Silly statement to make. We're talking about chemical addiction here, got nothing to do with your will power. If you want to trumpet that yo're strong minded for not being an addict, great, but stay away from these types of statements.
He's an NBA basketball player. I believe his name is E*die Griffin. I won't type the whole name, to protect his identity.
luckily no drug testing and I work in software for an oil company - also luckily NOT for Anadarko (big layoffs coming up)
Have you ever smoked mar1juana? Anyone who smokes can tell you that it's more will power than "chemical addiction". Most people smoke weed because they WANT to, not because they are addicted. You don't see potheads pawning off their cars to get a quick fix. You can even use the board members personal experiences in this thread. The majority have said its not addictive and had no problems quitting.
Anything, including pot, can be addictive if you have an addictive personality. It's not about the weed. It's about having an addictive personality. Addiction is addiction, whether to drugs, sex, gambling, food, or anything else.
I tired it for a bit when I was younger, never got high off of it and didn't like the smell (smelled too much like instant noodles). I never said it was or wasn't addictive. However, if anyone is addicted to something, addressing it with a sweeping statement as broad as "they're weak-minded" is just a silly assumption. There was a woman who was addicted to water, is she weak minded? People get addicted to the stupidest things because of how their body reacts to it.
Congratulations!! I'm proud of you, brah! I had my last cigarette on 11/22/06, and I doubt I will ever have another one. I haven't quit the muggles, but I have slowed way down (twice a week, only on weekends) since I am looking for a new day gig and potentially could get pre-employment tested. That way it will be easier to flush out my system.
