Buses are not nearly as efficient as trains.....and trains are faster as well..... Give me trains every day of the week, heck, if Los Angeles can have a subway, why not Houston? DD
Considering what it took to get light rail, getting a subway will be nigh impossible. But heck, I'm up for new forms of public transportation.
i'm telling you..there's no way they run trains down the center of the freeway at a speed much faster than the buses are travelling down the center of the freeway in HOV lanes right now. those buses are running at about 65 mph. i seriously doubt they'd be running trains much faster than that.
If you work in Downtown Austin, near the Capitol, living near where you work is going to cost several hundred thousand dollars. Either for a small, 50 year old 2 bedroom/1 bath "fixer-upper," if you want something "reasonable," (like in the $350,000 range!) or for a condo in the highrises being built. For 1200 sq. ft. 2 bedroom/2 bath condo, you're likely to spend around $500,000, or more. Now, in California or New York City, that's a good deal. In Austin, Texas, it may be a decent deal, but most people can't afford it. If you're renting, the rents are high, but that might allow you to afford a place closer to Downtown Austin. I've looked into this stuff. My wife works a block from the Capitol. If anything, I'm giving low-end numbers. D&D. Living should be Easy.
