MORE SPOILERS. Spoiler Well they definitely build up their relationship between the captain and Tony much better in IA. I mean basically he took him as a cadet from the start and groomed him. Basically the captain was the only family Tony had and was kind of like a father to him. In times of great stress, the captain remembered Tony's b-day and even gave him that watch. Tried to keep him sane and on task more as someone who cared about him and not just the job. When the captain in IA died, I was much more emotionally impacted then by the way he went in The Departed. It seemed a bit cheesy to have him land right splat at his feet. I like the car effect better. For me it wasn't JUST about oh man my identity, it was more like my god my only family died. Plus wasn't the captain much cooler in IA than in departed? It was hard for me to get his nose picking antics in YOung and Dangerous out of my mind but he did a great job . *Pick that series up if you want to see a good storylne*
I just saw this tonight. Excellent, excellent movie. Jack is still the freakin' man. And I have a lot of respect for Dicaprio.
After just reading the difference in IA and departed, I agree, the end was better in IA and if you had seen IA then you may be very dissapoint in the departed.....LUCKILY, I never saw IA so, I got to enjoy departed Great movie (If you havent seen IA)
Infernal Affairs had better music also. i love the music they played when the guy gets thrown out and as he is walking up the hill and looks back at the other guy, u hear the instructor say, "who wants to switch with him?" , "I do"
I am not a huge fan of Andy Lau. His acting was aweful in his early career, but he did improve a lot in recent years, and he did well in Infernal Affairs. Tony Leung on the other hand, is really an excellent actor, not just in this movie, but in so many others as well. I definitely like him more. Although most of re-makes aren't as good as the original one, I am still going to see The Departed, simply because of the cast. Speaking of IA2 and IA3, I wish I hadn't seen them. They hurt Infernal Affairs.
The story lagged and the charachter development was, in my opinion, piss-poor except for Leo's. Great individual efforts though, with Marky-Mark(he he) and Baldwin getting the best one-liner's prize. Honestly, different movies and genre's aside, and after all the critical acclaim, I was expecting something at LEAST as good as Goodfella's....sadly, Departed doesn't come close
I saw The Departed. It was a pretty good movie, but not as good as Infernal Affairs. The ending was pretty terrible in Departed compared to IA. I did really like Wahlberg and DiCaprio, good jobs. DiCaprio may get an Oscar nod.
Anyone know where I can get a copy of IA2. Have seen the 1st and the 3rd but not the 2nd. It is not at blockbuster and I dont know where I can download it from. Cant find it anymore
get one of those 2 week or 1 month free trials at netflix. They have it there. Once you get it watch it, return it and cancel your free trial membership.
While I agree that IA3 was a piece of trash and should not have being made, I liked IA2. IA2 actually fill in the gaps and did a pretty good job of creating the back story as well as build up the relationships in IA1.
When I said Friday night, I really meant Super Bowl Sunday. Out of the three Best Picture contenders I've seen, it's by far the best even though I really enjoyed both The Queen and Little Miss Sunshine.
I still haven't seen "Letters from Iwo Jima", but I've seen all the others and I agree -- "The Departed" was the best of the nominees. It wasn't my favorite movie of 2006, but definitely in the top few, and the best of what's nominated.
My sister-and we typically love the same movies and tv shows-still says Babel is better. Looking forward to that one.
Ugh, I thought Babel was enormously overrated. It's not a bad movie, but it's really not THAT compelling. It drags on FOREVER, and I just didn't think that the various interconnected stories were that compelling. I mean, it's not a bad movie, but the whole thing sort of stayed at relatively the same dramatic level the whole time. You know how stories are supposed to build up and then have the peak, and that's near the end? I sort of thought it was lots of small peaks throughout, which didn't give quite the same effect. It's worth seeing, but I can easily think of four or five movies this year that I thought were better and are not on the "best picture" list.
I saw a movie recently that probably should have got more Oscar attention- "Children of Men." It was a pretty chilling and powerful movie.
I have to say - I usually prefer original versions, but I liked The Departed much better than Infernal Affairs.
Absolutely. That's my second favorite movie of 2006. Not sure who told me that, but it wasn't my sister. She said she liked Babel a lot, but not more than The Departed. She did say The Departed was nearly ruined by the very very very last scene when a certain creature was running along the window sill. Not very subtle, Marty.
Question about a similar South Park episode, put in spoiler. Spoiler Did anyone see the episode of South Park where the boys were Junior Detectives and they ended up at a strip club in Denver with the mob and crooked cops? At the end everyone ended up killing each other, a lot like the ending to this movie. It's oddly similar. Wonder if they were spoofing Infernal Affairs?
