Jackson can temporarily fill in some vacancy, for now! But till the end of the season next year when there is available true center, thats when we can sign Jackson and trade him.
I say sign him for this year and the future. The chances of us getting a decent "true" center are probably slim and none, so why not have two above average power forwards?
Marc Jackson is just a flash in the pan. Signing him, especially for the long term, would be a huuuuuuuge mistake.
No doubt, I trade Walt Williams and Kenny Thomas for Marc Jackson immediately. If I see Walt throw up another low percentage shooting season, the Rocks deserve the Lotto. In addition, if Kenny Thomas does the spin move again, I'm sending him to Afgan. Walt and Kenny should live at Westside and sleep on air mattresses. Kenny is not the answer at PF, too short and shooting percentage and selection is horrible.
...assuming that I get the Medical exception, I send Golden State a future #1 pick to not match my offer to Jackson. I then offer him $2-3 mill to start out. After I have him in the fold, I send Walt to Washington for Jahidi White & my front line questions are answered. I never realized just how easy it is to be a GM.
I would take Jackson. He is better than the center that we have now. I don't think he will be a bust because of his background. He seems like a really hardworking person who is greatful for what he has. Just my opinion !
I think Swopa and aelliott have chimed in on this thing already, but I don't think teams can sign-and-trade their RESTRICTED free agents. Therefore, Golden State could not sign Jackson and then trade him to Houston for anything. Like Swopa said, if Golden State can make us take on Bob Sura's hefty contract in exchange for Walt Williams's expiring contract, then they might agree not to match any offer the Rockets make to Marc. There is both a pro and a con to this deal. The con is that this will probably have luxury tax implications down the line once the Rockets re-sign Francis. They'd be paying a backup guard a heckuva lot of money. However, the pro is that Sura is (in my opinion) a good guard and a superior player to Williams. Sura is an ideal third guard to have off the bench. He plays both PG and SG. And he's 6-5. He looks like a bigger version of Jason Williams, but with more game and more under control. And with hair. From a purely basketball standpoint, getting Sura AND Jackson for Williams seems like a great move, though.
I offer Jackson a 3 year deal guaranteed starting at 3 mill (assumed DPE), with a 4th year team option, and a 5th year player option. The team option safeguards us against him sucking badly and/or the price of decent big men going through the roof. If necessary, offer GS the Toronto pick. I'd start Jackson at PF, with Cato at center, and move him to center if: a.) Cato sucks (KT to PF) b.) KT plays well c.) Griff plays well Or injuries screwing everything up occur. Note that without the DPE, we have no real chance of getting Jackson. Side note on KT: I actually like a lot of KT's moves. He just can't finish to save his life.
I don't know Sura's contract,but I agree with you Dr.Pepper that they would rather trade Mookie instead of Sura.
drpepper, saleem--The Warriors would DEFINITELY rather trade Sura than Blaylock. Mookie's contract expires at the end of THIS season. Sura's deal pays him an average of $6 mil per season, and I believe he has at least three years left on the deal. With the Warriors having 17 players already under contract, it's a no-brainer that they'd rather have a contract that they can dump after this season than a big contract for a bench player.
Excellent post NIKE! The DPE could salvage our season. The Rockets need a 4/5 much more than a 4. Rudy loves versatile players. Jackson would give us that 4th scorer in the offense that we were looking forward to before Mo Taylors unfortunate injury. Jackson clearly insures against injury or poor performance by Cato/Collier. At that price, Jackson should be tradeable in the future if required. KT is probably our best rebounder (an area of need this season) and also a good passer for a big man (which might help under the new rules). I hope KT gets a shot this year. Is there any chance of a 3 team deal using Walt Williams to land Jackson? The last thing GS needs is another forward, but mabey we could involve someone else in a trade if we do not get the DPE.
