Yeah yeah. everyone hates trade proposals. I know. But I'm really, really tired of all the V-Span & JL3 garbage. We need a real backup point guard. The Magic are shopping Travis Diener. They couldn't be more obvious about it... they already have Nelson & Arroyo. Dieners's good enough for me: good assist-to-turnover ratio, good shooter. Of course, to get something good, you have to give up something good. So I propose we trade the Marquettians for each other: Novak for Diener. The salaries match. I don't like giving up Novak, but I believe he'll always be a serious defensive liability. Diener would be more valuable to us since he fills a need, imo.
i highly doubt diener would be a quality backup point. plus van gundy wouldnt play a 2nd year player with hardly any nba experience under his belt.
that being said, i wouldnt mind a trade for a point but i feel we have a higher need getting a versatile big man rather than a backup point. rafer starting, head playing limited minutes at the point, and mcgrady is perfectly fine with me. it would be nice to have insurance though but not diener at all.
When Yao Ming gets back and you will see how Alston plays, you might be wanting a STARTING POINT GUARD.
No doubt in my mind Milwaukee did the Boykins trade to sell tickets. Imagine what they might shell out for Novak! I say we wait until the Bucks have something sexy to offer... Seriously.
By that logic, Diener would be just as good to have anyway... both of them are former Marquette stars. To me, Novak is one thing: a standout shooter. Diener is also a standout shooter, but he's also a good decision-maker and isn't the defensive liability that Novak is on top of the shooting part (not saying he's GOOD at defense, but he's not as bad as Novak).
Diener can shoot but other than that he has NO discernable basketball skills at all. None! You could probably make the same argument about Novak but at least he has great size for the 3/4 positions going for him. With Novak its reasonable to assume once he hit the weights and improves his defense and rebounding that JVG might try him in a couple line-ups and possibly enter the rotation. Diener is a 6-foot-nothing, 175 pound, short, weak, slow, unathletic spot-up shooter that probably wouldn't even play.
a trade is not likely to happen in that department simply because head is the backup. head will continue to develop. even if there was a trade the backup Pg would have to fight with head. head is doing ok, and is getting somewhat better. rarely will any of us see lucas or vspan unless (knock on some serious wood) tmac goes down again, but since he has looked strong and bonzi is getting stronger as well, and also bonzi being to be able to come in and give tmac rest, I believe rox management feel ok about their chances. would diener be an upgrade over head? ne ways if the REAL question is can rox find a real PG instead of rafer, who would be available and who would the rox have to give up?
diener knows how to run an offense, something lucas can't or isn't interested in doing. his d isn't stellar but you see the ryan bowen hustle in him. magic had preferred him over dooling and arroyo as their 4th qtr point when nelson was out. one potential scenario i'd like to see out is if novak would start lighting up with their readymade chemistry. the major negative is he's an expiring contract so he's definately not worth giving up much for (yes for jliii with his very good +/- #'s and 3yr contract with option, but not for novak or any picks of any kind) that said he's realistically attainable by trade for the rockets. if he's an immediate improvement over lucas, vspan, and head at the point, why not? would jvg play him? it's been reported he's one of the harder workers during training and shows leadership and great enthusiasm that rubs off on the other players.
Add Spanoulis, Lucas, and Redick to the deal, and I pull the trigger immediately. Throw in a second rounder or two to sweeten the deal if need be.
I don't get this. You really think Rafer will play worse with a healthy Yao and Tmac. Rafer is the only Rocket besides Battier that force feeds the ball to Yao and Tracy. He really hasn't had a whole bunch of time with both players but I think his assists will go up and he will not shoot as much. He will definitely get some open looks that he needs to knock down but I don't see the offense needing Rafer to score when Yao gets back.
Diener is probably worse than Spanoulis and JL3 combined so I dont see why this trade makes sense unless you're a Magic fan.
LOL nice idea, but I am thinking more like: JLIII for a bag of potato chips! JLIII back 2 the NBDL JLIII for an expiring contract JLIII back 2 his old job? (ballboy!!) all I care about is: he needs to go!!
