Who would be interested in having an online RISK tournament between all the users? I found a site that will run the game on line. I haven't played, but it looks pretty good to the naked eye. It's been running now for like 3 years. Check it out and let me know if it's any good. I'm headed home right now so I'll check people's interest tomorrow. If we could get like 36 people for a tournament ( 6 people per game ) to take over the world that might be fun. But maybe somebody else has a better idea than this. I'd like to involve all of us in a single game to take over the world if it were possible, but this site can't handle that request. Heres the link... http://boardgames.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.dominategame.com/
Sounds interesting. I've never played before, but I wouldn't mind trying it out to see if I like it. Does it take a lot of time to play?
I would like to be included, but can I atleast have Michael Jordan on my army without giving up a pick?
Great even less of a life for me now. thank god for women. there will always something that keeps me out and about
Looks like we have a small group of Risk players. So this is it. I think the game could take a while to play. Not quite sure. It's an easy game to learn. Moves can be limited from 1 minute to 60 minutes. We just have to try it out and see what time allotment works best for us. Each move is on the timer so I'd like to see if we can 'pause' the game by agreeing that nobody will make any moves until "tomorrow"...but that may cause the game to crash. Not sure. We just have to experiment with it. I think we should pick a Saturday and just try it out. We could try a work day, but work could cause some problems. So I'm up for trying it out during a weekend. This saturday I may be playing golf, but if like 4 of you could try it out that would be cool. The login was tricky for me, but eventually I got in. Here is a rough schedule: Fill in your name when you can play. Or at least try to play. Start time would be Noon EST Basically somebody needs to log in at noon, set up a league, and then we all jump into it and start playing. I think set up is easy. I'm not saying this game will be great, but I hope it is. Hopefully the test group can let us all know if it's any good. Somebody could test it out by playing the computer as well. I tested the game today with standard settings (didnt mark any of the options) and I liked the standard time (3 min) for the moves, although I hardly ever used over 2 min. But it is nice having the extra time, and maybe later in the game when you attack on all fronts you will need some time I tested against 2 computers and they swept me off the board the first round so obviously I did something wrong. Then I tested against only 1 computer, and this time I survived to the bitter end, conquering the world. This was the first time I ever tried with the option of defense or offense, and I liked it. But whatever options you decide I'm up for being eradicated.
I played a couple of games. It's pretty cool. I got whipped by the computer though. I suggest everyone play a few rounds against the computer to get used to the game. Learning how to move armies, roll dice, and trade in your cards. Basic idea of the game for those that haven't played: Your mission is to take over every country, thus the world. Everyone places armies throughout the world to start You attack another country by rolling dice when its your turn, or, you can move armies., or do nothing. If you own a continent when it's your turn you get x-tra armies to place down. If you don't own a continent, you get 3 armies. Every time you win a battle you get a trading card. You can only get 1 card per turn. Three of a pair, or three different cards will get you armies when it's your NEXT turn. The number of armies increases for each set of cards you trade in. obviously, getting cards is important. The basic idea is to win continents and keep them, but not to let your opponent get a continent.
PSJ - try playing a couple of games with no options marked. I liked having a fixed number for the cards you exchange. Then you have more strategy as you can decide to wait to get a better combo. (You get 4 armies for the lowest set, then 6 and 8 for the others, and 10 if you have 1 of each). I have usually played RISK with increasing number of armies when you swap in cards, but I liked very much this way - I found myself waiting for a better card several times. I also liked that you had to chose if you wanted to go defense or offense. Try it out.
Since my night life has developed leaps and bounds I never really know my schedule. Technically everything is free from now until next sat but that could change drastically. If I'm on the boards though I'm open to a game.
Can you describe offense versus Defense, I've never played that but it sounds like it adds to the game. Also, what are capitals?
I didnt try with capitals (an extra option), but as I understood it you assign one of your starting countrys/areas as your capital, if you lose this country/area you are history and the one who conquers your capital get all your other areas too (and maybe even your armys - I think so) Offense vs Defense In the start of every turn you can decide to either place out additional armys (defense) for the number of areas you got (divided by 3 and rounded down), or you can attack. These forces you wont get if you attack, but only when you attack you can gain a card to get additional armys from trading in cards. Btw - you can place armys for trading cards and your bonus for having continents whatever you chose to do - offense or defense, so you wont lose these armies.
I played with Heath a little and it was pretty fun. I don't know what kind of schedule I'll have though for this coming week... when I'm free, im free
