I can't remember the last time we blew out scrub teams. JVG is right. There is not that much difference between the talent in this league. It is about focus, hustle and execution. boy, it's so nice to hear TMac say he's having fun out there. And I'm starting to get the feeling that Alston has taken a weight off his shoulders; it seemed he was pressing a lot like he was overthinking everything.
How have they not. We are either 3 or 4 on every power ranking out there. Unless you think we are better than the Mavs and the Suns.
I bet a bunch of yall would never make it mentally in the NBA. It's up to you to prove coach wrong. Even in High School, when I was riding the bench my freshman year, I practiced hard in order to show my coach I wanted to play. I gave the 1st team all they could handle, and I would make it hell with the JV team as well. Perhaps I wasn't a major role player, but I can say that whenever I would play in blow outs, coach would give me props, and heck one time that earned me a starting job. Bottomline. Vspan is a man. He is no little boy and coach isn't going to babysit him. Jeff Van Gundy is being payed millions in order to lead this team to the championship. He isn't going to jeopardize his job in order to give some underserving rookie minutes. Many posters say, "give him minutes, at least 10 a game so he can develop". When you are in a team that is contending for a championship, you don't put young players to play ball. You put the veterans. Those young ones that prove themselves, like Chuck Hayes and Luther Head, they get playing time. You just can't say, give me time coach. Have you seen San Antonio, Dallas, Detroit, Lakers, Suns, etc. How much time are their rookies getting. Not many. Heck Manu Ginobili didn't come into the NBA playing 30 minutes a night. Suns, they play nothing but experience players. Same with Dallas. We know V-span has potential, but until he proves to coach JVG he deserves time, he won't get it. I saw the box score yesterday and he had 2 turnovers and no assists in five minutes. I'm sorry, but at this time as much as I would love to see our little boy succeeding in the NBA, it isn't going to happen because he obviously is not working hard in practice, even after the statement of "best practice of the year" was released.
Everyone is so obsessed with V-Span right now. Personally, I think it was a shot to all of them, but mainly Bonzi Wells. JVG wasn't being overcritical. They were awful. Plain and simple. Great quotes- I loved what little AI had to say about our team. I hope others start taking notice, too.
JVG is a great interview, he can be pretty funny even, but sometimes he needs to shut his damn mouth. jvg needs to shut his mouth? isnt billy the one that started all of this by running his mouth to the greek media? give me a break, if billy cant take it b/c he's so sensitive, hop on the first boat back to greece and be the valedictorian of summer school over there. and what he said was not wrong...dont ask for more playing time b/c you think you are good and then get the chance that you asked for, to only look like a chicken with his head cut off
SJC in another thread said that JVG might have been talking about Bonzi and NOT V-span. JVG did say he did not want any more players coming to HIM for more playing time. DD
also, how do we he is even talking about v-mac (nice name)? did anyone catch what jvg yelled in the 4th quarter (about the 10 minute mark)? Bonzi turned the ball over and the camera went to jvg...i cant say for sure but it seemed like jvg said "you said you wanted to play more...so show me that you can play" Anyone else catch this?
Sounds like the problem is with VSpan then. IF what you say is even remotely true, that sort of attitude gets you no where. You think the stars in the league just gave up? I don't think so. Perhaps the best option for him is to go to a scrubby team to get some play time. B/c he won't get it on this team the way he's playing in the minutes he gets. Same reason JL3 lost his rotation spot.
Which makes a lot more sense than him talking about V-Span yeah, i agree. i dont think jvg is that concerned with billy
Vspan isn't exactly making a case for time out there. If JL3 went to the papers tomorrow and complained about how he was expecting more PT and management lied to him, you'd all laugh about it and relish all the criticism JVG could heave on him. JVG gave vspan plenty of love before the season started. Now, he's got to put him in his place. Phil Jackson has publicly criticized Kwame Brown quite embarrassingly. And how many minutes is Avery Johnson giving to first-round draft pick Maurice Ager? But hey, I guess those two are just bad coaches.
I personally don't care if JVG is "cool" or not. As long as the team is winning and the key players are happy with him, he is a good coach in my book. I don't care whether the 11th man European rookie likes him or not, just as I didn't worry too much what Scotty Brooks thought of Rudy T in 1994. JVG is not a kindergarten teacher.
Personally I think the way that JVG handled V-span was fair. V-span is not ready to succeed in NBA with his skill level, his mental toughness and readyness, and etc... He used the wrong venue to show his frustration... Butaa great coach develops a person. A great coach tries different approaches to HELP different players to reach their potentials because he cares them as a person and hope them to succeed.... Apparently JVG focus purely on wins and losses, which would set him apart from being great...
It sure is nice to hear. It seems the whole team is having fun right now. They're playing smart and taking care of business. When they hit stretches like last night in the 3rd quarter, around the time when Juwan did his no look touch pass to a cutting Mutombo (which he bobbled), stretches where the entire team seems to be one perfect unit, making the right passes to the open teammates, cutting at the right times, hitting the open shots, rotating quickly and correctly on defense and anticipating the opponents passes. Man, those stretches are like tangible, magical happiness flowing over me when I watch. And it never lasts long. Last night Deke bumbling that unexpected pass was enough to break the spell. But man, it sure seems to be happening more and more lately.
we kinda need a deeper bench...is all i see from that horrible 4th quarter. but with bonzi and luther coming off the bench, i'm pretty happy. i hope deke keeps playing the way he's playing now even when yao gets back. but i can't help but feel that we need to our bench to be a little deeper.
You have to keep in mind, two people that would probably be in the rotation are still injured. Our bench looks a lot different when Yao is back. Plus we have yet to see Synder for significant minutes since his hand injury (though I think he is going to be fighting for a normal spot in that rotation, much like Bonzi) So three of those guys who we saw in the fourth won't really be an issue unless something unforseen happens injury-wise (knock on wood!!) The only bench position we really have to worry about is backup PG, but honestly, as long as Tmac is in the game with Luther at the point, I think he will be fine there as backup.
