It really sucks for him. He has talked about being very famous over in greece. I know eh enjoyed playing well there, but lets face it... he is having a hard time adjusting to the NBA. Most people would argue that Vspan should play more. But thats crazy. Not only is Vspan a poor shooting, turnover machine in practice, but he atcually does it in games. JVG wants him to become a three point shooting guard. Why? Cause with Yao in the game, penetration is not a premium. We must shoot well for the Rockets to be successful. JVG knows that, and he is onyl asking VSpan to change his play. We are not a run and gun team like the Suns.. and even on a team like that you still must shoot the ball well. The games I have watched VSpan in, defenses have just ignored him and doubled off of him. JVG is right.. even when Vspan gets minutes, he shows why he belongs on the bench. Playing Vspan will do several things

    1. Mess up the chemistry- Rafer does a much better job of running the offense. PLus, he can shoot well enough to get the job done (more than half the time).

    2. Increase the tunrover to assist ratio- enough said... he can't control the ball.

    3. Crowd the lane- The best thing that he does is crowd the lane. That won't work with Yao in the game. Anyone ever notice that Bonzi almost never plays when Yao is in the game? Guess why? It gets crowded down there.

    4. Can't shoot- I don't even need to explain this one. If you complain about Rafer shooting... you can't excuse Vspan.

Conclusion: He needs to develop his game. Work hard.. or get traded.

I know what you meant with #2 on the list, but you kinda got it backwards. We definitely don't want him increasing his turnover to assist ratio

He will never contribute to this team. His game is way too flawed and he thinks he's way better then he is. He'll either get traded or waived eventually. He has no future here

I'm sure the guy gives JVG a heart attack even when he's on the court the last 5 minutes of a blowout. 2 turnovers and 1-3 shooting. No assists. He looks like he's some dude who won a contest of spending a few weeks as a member of the Rockets.

I can not disagree with you. V-Span needs to play better, not complaining to the media about not getting minutes.

Our whole bench sucked in the 4th. Novak doesnt look like he got any better at all. His defense was horrid and Lucas was ball hogging again. VSpan seems frustrated.

Vspan pretty much proved Van Gundy right tonight. He's still got a long way to go so he should keep his mouth shut.

That must've been directed either at Vspan or at Rocket's fans(esp. on this board) calling for more Vspan.

Span deserves all the ridicule in the world now. Once he opened the flood gates by speaking out in the media, he better perform when he gets minutes. What a fool this guy is turning out to be.

And we have him for 3 years?

It was directed at V-Span and it was uncalled for by JVG.

If you are going to b**** at someone for speaking out..don't do it yourself.

2 wrongs do not make a right.

    Now, that being said.....

It is totally unfair and agregious for JVG to be truly upset by the 4th quarter....if you put a bunch of players that never play into the game at the same time...this is what you are going to get...

It is EXACTLY why a lot of us have been saying put in V-Span with the regulars......as passing the ball to Tmac is a lot different than passing it to JL3.

I think JVG was focused on V-Span because of his comments...and that is understandable...but JL3 was not just bad....HE STUNK !!!

Novak did ok.....and V-Span was pretty bad (Again playing the 2 guard instead of his natural postion).

But, the team won by 22........I thought we were supposed to be happy about that.

Can we talk about how bad and selfish Lucas played tonight first?

Did he shoot worse and pass less in more playing times?

Dude it doesn't matter what position he's "playing", he had plenty of opportunities with the ball in his hands to do what he wnated with it, when he's fumbling the ball away against Kyle Korver or missing open shots or gettin schooled on D - that's on him.

You can't use that as a crutch.

Also I thought NOvak showed how far he has to go, again. THe guy can't box out, defend, or get open. He hit two shots which was good, but man he just stank it up everywhere else. He's like the definition of a 1-dimensional player.

As for Lucas III he was ass.

Why are you keep saying SG is not VSpan's natural position? I thought he played mostly SG on the Greek team?

Winning usually covers up potential problems. JVG is doing great on team defense, but his inability to develop talents (for long-term) is still there. Rockets need a good PG, that's why VSpan was brought here. Besides Alston and T-Mac, the best potential playmaker is VSpan. Head or JLIII is not. You can not expect someone without any US basketball experience to develop or perform very well in a few trash minutes and out of position! Head is a good example. He was not developed by JVG, but due to other players' injuries. His confidence and shooting improved significantly through game time and mistakes/turnovers.

Just a simple question, what if Alston is injured? Would you like T-Mac to handle the ball all the time?

JVG is looking at wins NOW. That is all right, but he also needs to solve the serious potential problem by putting VSpan in the rotation every game (not just in trash time).

What VSpan has to improve though is his 3-point shooting.

No doubt his mishandling of the dribble tonight was horrible, but he also had 2 great passes that set up wide open looks for his teamates which they both clanked.

V-Span did not look great tonight, but he was hardly as bad as JL3.....and again......as a PG it matters a LOT, who you play with.

As passing the ball to a wide open Tmac is better than passing to a wide open JL3....

Tonight's bench performance also proved my point about playing the bench a bit more, as we had a ton of players out there who get ZERO court time and it showed.

If JVG would utilize his bench a bit more they would not look so chaotic in these games.

The greek team played a different style of game, where their 2 guard was meant to penetrate and score.....

I completely agree with you dada. Seriously, what does he expect when he puts our guys who NEVER play in there for an entire quarter. That, and guys like Vspan who almost NEVER play don't really even get a chance to do anything even though...yes they got on the floor tonight.

He was like a deer in headlights. He seemed VERY stressed like he had to prove himself, but man. COme on. When the rookies (novak etc. ) get thrown out there when never playing, you expect the blowout to get a little smaller.

22pt win? I'll take it ANY night.

    Go Rockets.
