How about simply having the ability to detect when a known terrorist on the CIA warning list purchases an airline ticket under his own name? Or perhaps not grant visas to them? I think the technology is available to identify the "really bad dudes" without implementing a major crackdown on everyone's civil liberties. Of course, we are counting on 'enlightened' politicians and government officials for our safety....so don't hold your breath.
Its a shame that this BBS apparently does not represent a microcosm of American society. If it did, things would be better. It just goes to show you Houston Rocket fans are the most intelligent, open-minded supporters in the world!
There are so many underlying racist things in your post, I don't know where to begin. Seriously, I agree 100%. I honestly can't believe that there's not already something like that. You'd think it would be something that'd be easy to implement.
Color me stupid, but I just assumed that they would already have something like that, common sense...you know, like not being able to take knives on planes.
SMARTColor95, News reports over the last few days was that they were given a list that the FBI compiled. Go figure!
Many apologies! Only intended as a play on your words, but I after seeing it in print, I see that it could be misinterpreted!! Damn.
Cohen, I knew you were kidding...I was talking about the airlines having a list, but obviously not consulting it.
I’m not Arab or Japanese but I feel one of the most disgraceful things the U.S. government has ever done was the internment camps of WWII.
I sorta agree with you. I find the actual internment the 2nd most distasteful thing the US govt has ever done. I think the single worst act(s), however, took place in the following years when four separate times the US supreme court ruled Executive Order 9066 (the act that set up the internment camps) constituional. Four separate times the supreme court failed to find fault with the stripping of every civil liberty for an entire group of people. Truly truly shameful. Of course the "bad blood" experiments in which poor black sharecroppers in Alabama were kept from syphilis treatments to "study" the effects of syphilis were also pretty friggin horrible... http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0762136.html We live in a wonderful country but stories like these are why we must remain ever vigilant not only about affairs out of our borders but within as well.
They probably felt that it would fall under the broad umbrella of national security. Now I am by no means an expert on the constitution, so this may not be the case. Anyway, just saying that because something is obviously wrong, that doesn't make it unconstitutional.
A man who was born in the U.S., worked all his life as a framer in 1942 (50 years old at the time) get put in a “prison camp” for 3+ years. The U.S. government takes his lifetime savings, auctions off his house, land, farm, auto and everything else his and his family owns just because of his Japanese roots, and then after the war the government says you have nothing and we owed you nothing. It’s okay to send billions to other country but you aren’t getting a dime (back)? This country was also at war with Germany at the time.
So hold on, my parents are from India some I'm indian so I should carry around an "APU" card and then since were muslims I should carry one of those cards?? Sorry buddy my wallet's too full. Plus I was born In CHicago so we already have to carry Michael Jordan cards....
