http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,655192069,00.html That would be highway robbery for the Jazz, god I hope this doens't happen though there has to be more to it. I doubt it happens but interesting nonetheless...
Would be good for the Nets. I rather have Andrei on my team than Vince. Only problem is health but if im not mistaking Vince is also injury prone ( or was, well i dont know).
Paying Kirilenko at max is about twice as much as he should get. Bottom line is that perimeter players with so-so offensive skills, who are defensive stoppers shouldn't be making more than say 8 mill a year. Max contracts go to go-to guys .
Injuries aside, I'd love to have AK47, him and VC are exact opposites, VC needs the ball in order to make and impact on the game while AK47 is a do it all type of player that can do other things to make an impact, he's a more talented but injury prone version of Battier
Vince Carter is one of my favorite players I do not want to see him on the freakin UTAH JAZZ!!!!!!!!!!1
If I was Utah, I'd consider it because they now seem to have a hustle player in Paul Millsap who seems to have similar strengths to Kirilenko (steals, blocked shots) while he might even be a better rebounder. Since Kiri isn't doing much offensively, would they really lose that much by giving him up?
the jazz keep saying that andre isn't going anywhere. for some reason i believe them. i think that vince will be gone by the deadline. he will be able to bring in a superstar. he's a superstar himself, he's a huge ending contract, he's a ticket seller.
There has to be more to it then a straight up trade. Vince Carter is the opposite of Kirilenko. He can explode offensively on any given night. Him in the west - just make the west tougher.
if I'm utah, I do it -- why? ak47's contract has been proven as a mistake for them, he's getting paid somewhere around 16 mill a year, and he is locked up for 4 more years at least and doing nothing for them. they get vc, a year long rental (he will opt out at the end of the year), but still manage to get ak47's contract off the books, something they wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. if I'm the nets, I do it -- why? vc is opting out, kidd is 1 year older and they honestly have no chance of winning right now. they get a new, more defensive player to build around and they get him locked up for several years to come.
Posted this elsewhere, will post again. Utah runs a system. No one in Utah feels Carter would fit that system, especially at the price he is expected to be paid, obviously so. Let's not forget while Vince is a fantastic player to watch and a very good stat guy, he doesn't have the consistency or defense to put Utah anywhere they couldn't go without slinging Harpring off a pick to hit jumpers and play tough defense, or Kirilenko affecting the game like he can without any touches. It really is naive to think Utah would do this.
That's a good point, but you gotta think Jerry Sloan would adjust to his talent if he had someone with Vince's creativity and scoring ability and athleticism on his team. They haven't had anyone close since Malone, and the system they ran was perfect for his abilities. Kirilenko would be sick on the Nets--I agree w/tinman...similar to what Kenyon was if he pairs with Kidd. Utah would be improved, but at least their perimeter D would take a big hit. For that reason, I think they'd still end up losing in the playoffs 1st rnd
Boozer has thrived playing a very similar role to Malone, banging around bodies in the paint, side stepping off of picks for spot up jumpers and creating when the system gives him space. Carter's assets aren't worth it for the money... Utah will be fine at the 2 in the future with the tough as nails penetrator Ronnie Brewer and a 3 pt specialist in CJ Miles. It's their weak man-to-man interior defense (Boozer, Okur) that they would want to address before the trade deadline. No one contests shots for them in the paint and they foul too much. 21st in defensive efficiency (http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2007/d_de.htm). Plus, Utah has always 'prided' itself on it's tough, nasty, in-your-face defense. Is Vince Carter down with that? Hell no!
My biggest question is why isn't Isiah all over this Vince Carter situation? As we all know his biggest trademark in any roster transaction is ending up with the most talented player(s) regardless of any considerations of chemistry or common sense. This kind of helps to support my theory that Isiah has been stripped of all power with regard to roster moves. That guy's as good as gone!
I'd rather have Kirilenko. If Utah gives him up for Carter, I'd hope it'd be because the relationship is irreparable.
