I side with Zong. He is probably saying it too strongly, but I agree with his sentiment. Accidents happen, but you can minimize their probability by avoiding situations in which you will hurt yourself. You have to balance your game between aggressive play and hurting yourself. Note that Yao no longer gets into foul trouble as much as before. Why? Because he has learned when hold back and not foul, sometimes at the price of letting an opponent score. He now has to do the same with injuries. He has to know when to hold back and avoid an injury prone situation, at the price of letting an opponent score. Of course, in both fouling an opponent and injuring oneself, you also have to balance all of above with whether it is first quarter or the last second of a tied game; or early versus late in the season. You manage risk. Zong's point is that Yao may benefit by learning to manage injury risk better. That is not such a crazy idea given that Yao grew up playing in a less competitive field and that he had to learn to manage foul trouble.
sure, yao should just let everyone scores on him because he might get hurt. How the hell does he suppose know what plays he might get hurt on? You still a dumbass.
aw man, the last thing we need is yao second guessing himself. when he and t-mac were on the floor, we were damn good. he needs to remember that "no one can ****ing stop him". it'd be awesome if he becomes a better defender due to this, though.
I had no idea Shenzhen was the sister city of Houston. I lived in Shekou for about a year. Can I go? Mike
When you are a big man and guarding the paint, sooner or later you will be injured. T-Mac got injured simply when he was contesting a shot, and the paint is a much more rugged place, with point guards dashing in trying to draw the contact, falling bodies, etc. There's probably not one star center/pf who has not been injured in their career.
In this board, it is a discussion for the Rockets. It does not matter my point is wrong or correct, it is just an opnion. If someone puts a cheap label for someone for a post, then I do not even want to respone the guy. On Yao's poster, I just speculate something, it may be not right just like someone points out, it is just for a think. Yao will never listen to me, Rockets will never listen to me. It is just for a fun. By the way, I am living Houston, I sepended lots of money on Rockets because of Yao, does someone think I do not support Yao? I also like your idea that I was probably saying it too strongly, then someone thinks I hate a Rocket player.
Interesting article from Wang Meng on Yao Ming on the receiving end (sitting on the chair) to grab football from no one else than Charlie Ward !!!
And don't forget he also won the Heisman Trophy that year! http://www.heisman.com/winners/c-ward93.html
Nice story, but it fails to note that not only was Charlie Ward the starting quarterback for a national championship team, he also won the Heisman Trophy as best college football player that year. You bet he really knows how to throw an American Football! edit^ you just beat me to it!
I am not sure that all of you noticed that in the game in which Yao got injured he was playing as though he was overly tired with poor concentration and quite often just hung around without being part of plays. The accident happened under this circumstance, as this lack luster player decided to get seriously involved in a play. His play at this time was not the standard type of action seen from Yao Ming and would have been a foolish move if he hadn't been so tired. The result an unusual involvement that lead to an accident. Normally one would expect Yao not to put himself in this position again . Also JVg must ensure that Yao Ming doesn't get overly tired from playing too many minutes game after game.
must you always put that rolly eyes emoticon? WhoMikeJames was just asking a question, no need to be so snotty, geez
