Great post. I agree with every single point made here. Vspan isn't very good. He has the potential to become better, but until he does that he has no room to whine about PT.
Dude what are you talking about? If V-Span had a darker complexion, wore gold chains, hat sideways, was from the maryland ghetto, and you saw him play, you'd call him a street baller who would be bad for Yao's progression.
And Yetti, I'm not being some hypocritical liberal phonie and saying you are a contradicting person and I am better than you and all that baloney. But I am saying...Steve Francis did this and he was a selfish me first guy. So V-Span, he's a selfish wannabe street baller.
35% percents better than 22%. He was progressing. Gotta give him that. edit: oh no wait,, thats regressing. but still...wait...see...that...uh.....no....can't paint pretty picture here....no matter how funny that commercial was.
In the WCs SPanoulis played on a team that made a 8-1 record and finished 2nd against top competition. Brasil for example with Barbosa and Varejao couldn't even qualify to the top 16 teams and Slovenia finished 16th with 4 nba players on its roster and so on... VSpan was a part of the rotation--he played like 27 minutes per game while he wasn't the go-to guy-- you need to have a rotation of 9-10 players if you have high aspirations in that competition. He was a part of a team effort and marginally the leading scorer for his team. He was no Ginobili there and he may never be so good but Ginobili also had like 2 TOs per game there, Barbosa had 3, Diaw had 4 per game so those stats don't show he was more turnover prone than these guys who aren't known as TO machines. His stats may not have been impressive but his team was winning and he was a big part of it. So I think he sure is no Steve Nash right now but he's no scrub either--his game can translate nicely in the nba as a pg and become a solid contributor to the Rocks.
Dumb$h*t is one injury away from significant minutes. He needs to keep his mouth shut and wait his turn. He is probably gone in a package for a backup big man now.
does anyone think dirk played AT ALL in his first season? exactly. AND just think how effin hard v-span is gonna work this offseason. hard work does anything, turns dumbasses into honored mention grduates, makes yao cuss people out, and makes rafer shoot better(and that is amazing) lol
Actually Dirk played almost 50 games, started in 24 and aergaed 20 mpg. Manu Ginobili played in almost 70 games and alos played 20mpg. Is 8-12 minuted per game too much to ask for a rookie pg when the starting pg is the weakest lik on the team? I think not, why not give him a few minutes? Not the majority of the time but why not 10 mpg?
Slovenia's 4 NBA players were Brezec, Bostjan Nachbar, Rasho, and Udrih.... Anyways 11 points and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 35% isn't very good. Barbosa is a good NBA player and Varejao is an average role player...
thanks, but he did have a little comeback though. I cant exactly call it a comeback considering his great comprehension skills and his great organization skills (where he quoted himself and myself at the same time!!).. so I read it, had a good laugh, and saw the personal attack on me using profanity. so I happily clicked the Report button in the upper right, and I read it again to get another laugh. I thought about replying to it, but then I figured that it's not really worth it. so until the ban happens, he will gladly be accepted as the first guest on my ignore list..
the difference is Dirk was a top 10 pick and Ginobili dominated in Europe and could shoot and is a great athlete. Both players actually gave their teams reasons to play him.
This is truly a r****ded post. V-Span comes from a different style of play over there in Greece. It is not uncommon for a foreign player to have somewhat of an adjustment period. Thus, it may be later in the season or even next season before his game shows improvement that warrants him REAL playing time. If he had his game down, I'm sure JVG would play him. As NikeSTRAD points out a few posts ago, he has glaring holes in his game. He has talent and skills to boot, but with those aforementioned statistics and results coupled with what we have seen this year in brief moments, Van Gundy is justified by running the rotation as he has. While he has shown flashes of brilliance, he has to be more consistent and cut down on his turnovers. The Rox dont need any help in the gaining turnovers, we already turn it over enough. Y'all may dislike Rafer's game, I am not exactly thrilled by it either, but at this point in time whether you wish to acknowledge it or not, Rafer is a better alternative than V-Span until Billy steps up his game. Johnrox, stick to task and stop blathering us with stupid preconceived notions and meaningless conjecture. It's not becoming.
Fans were screaming for Novak at one time too...then they watched him play. He's just not ready yet. Watching vspan, people really should reach the same conclusion. But hey, I guess the coaching staff is wrong and our excellent scouts have never picked any busts before.
And Dirk's team his rookie year went 19-31 (lockout year, projects to a 31 win season). Rookie Dirk averaged all of 2 minutes more than an aged AC Green, and fewer minutes than such frontcourt luminaries as Cedric Ceballos and Gary Trent. Hot Rod Williams averaged 16 minutes a game, and Aussie legend Chris Anstey even got 10+ minutes. There's a big difference between that and a team that's tied for the 5th best record and could be higher if not for significant injuries to its top 3 offensive players. A rookie Steve Nash only got 10 minutes a game for a team that went 40-42...and he had a ready-made NBA skill (shooting). From rhino, I feel like I go over it in every thread. NO team in the league plays 3 point guards rotational minutes. It is downright indisputable that JL3 outplayed Spanoulis in similar minutes, and according to Clutch's source, Spanoulis has been poor in practice this year; Spanoulis still got his chance ahead of JL3, but flat out played poorly. Now, since JL3 has been faltering and Bonzi has returned to crunch the swingman minutes, Luther Head has been taking those minutes. Given the fact that JL3, Head, and Spanoulis are all within a few months age-wise (Spanoulis is actually the oldest of the 3 by a couple months), and are all signed beyond the year, why does Spanoulis deserve those minutes over JL3 and Head, when he's clearly been outperformed in limited minutes, and reportedly outperformed in practice? The answer is, he doesn't. We've seen Head in the NBA and in college, and we've seen Lucas since his college days. There is just a fascination with him because he comes from overseas and has more mystery surrounding him.
True but 20 minutes a game for Dirk was just right. He could contribute but wasn't 100% ready for the NBA game. Unlike V-Span he showed reason why he would be an NBA player for years to come. And Nash.. well look who played in front of him.
That Phoenix team Nash played on was the exception. They routinely went with 2 PGs at the same time and I think at times even 3 PGs. That era of the Phoenix team once started a 6-4 Rex Chapman at the 4! It's a moot point anyway; I think we're generally in agreement.
