So, from a purely political point of view, last year after the election 11 months ago, people were talking about the size of his hard mandate. But then he sort of stumbled out of the gate. Social Security privatisation went nowhere fast. The leaker that could never be found was found right under his nose. Journalists were found to be on the take and planted gay hooker reporters were unmasked. (the fact that that is a true statement is still mind boggling to me. The ongoing saga of frustration and death 2 years after mission accomplished, then the New Orleans debacle.

So does the president do anything at all this term of any consequence (aside from appointing justices) or is he spent? As fast as he fell, can he make it back up?

If the Republicans keep control of the Senate at the midterm elections, the Republican agenda (if not W's) will prevail.

You just inspired me to write a DC-base p*rn movie.

No, but seriously...even if his approval ratings stay at this level, it won't matter to W....because no one will tell him. As far as political impact, it all depends on the Nov elections.

Iraq will continue to weigh him down like a lead anchor ~ we hate the 'war' and it's not getting any better.

None of his major policy agendas are going anywhere.

If the Dems somehow grab the Senate back next year Bush will have an exceedingly hard time accomplishing anything (not that it's easy for him now).

W will likely sign a bunch of the 100 hour agenda into law, which will salvage his reputation. Oh the irony.

Of course he'll sign... and he'll then append a signing statement and ignore the whole thing.

    rimrocker,

You just know, years from now, W will give some BS look-back TV interview. He will end up saying that his defining moment was signing all the Dem's 100 hour agenda, without actually mentioning the Dem. He will go on to say that that was the proof that he was a uniter not a divider. You can effing count on it.

I also fully expect W to say that the Congress failed him in their lack of oversight over the leadup and follow through to the Iraq War. You can effing count on that 1 2.
