I haven't put my thoughts in about the VSpan issue. I don't think he really wanted to come here that badly. I think he had it really good back home and the Rockets talked him into it. He must of thought that they wanted him so bad he would be playing. Now he is looking bad and his star at home is fading instead of shining more brightly. I would be pissed too.
every player has to go through the process of being "the man" to learning his role at the pro level. look at novak, he was a star at marquette and he's in the same position as vspan, except he isnt making any money and he had to work his tail off to make the team as a 2nd rounder. you never hear him complain. vspan is no different from any other rookie in JVG's eyes, and he shoudlnt expect any special treatment for being from greece. suck it up and show the coach you can improve on your flaws as a player.
yeah and that is why nba teams are better. thanks for proving my point. the best european players come here for the money and because it's a better league and the players that can't make the nba here go to europe because that's their best option. i'm not talking about the talent of the players but of the talent of the league teams.
Come on dude. Of course he improved. He was a young player in Europe. He's going to get better against European competition. And yes he wouldd be a scrub in the NBA. Why wouldn't he sign with an NBA team if he was good enough? He's from the states. Dude get your facts straight. Not hardly the stars of the team? I don't know about Delk but Trajan and Batiste both lead their teams in scoring.
true, nba teams are better on average, never said the opposite. i was just saying that the difference isn't that big any more and the individual talent of professional Euroballers is easily comparable to Americans and better in many cases. that's what globalization of basketball has brought in and that's a good thing.
That is the most ridiculous, history revising, post I have ever read. Your hatred for JVG prevents you from any reasonable discussion of the merits of JVG as a coach. The facts are these: 1. JVG has had 10 seasons, and he has had 9 playoff teams. The only season his team was out of the playoffs is when he was forced to manage a team with 7 of its top 8 players out for 10 games or more. You may wish to ignore the reality of this statistic but your argument becomes grounded solely in emotional hatred and completely ignores the history of performance. 2. JVG purposefully refused to say anything to the media about Bonzi, other than simply, "His status is unchanged." Although repeatedly asked to expound upon the "out for personal reasons," by the media, JVG refused to do so. Even when Bonzi shut his mouth off to ESPN about "running a marathon," JVG still would not air peronnel matters in public. 3. Name me one player, Knick or Rocket, that has left a JVG coach team and criticized him? No, they all say he is a great coach. TMac and Yao love the guy, but no doubt you know more about basketball than they do. YOU ARE AN IDIOT!
I'm not defending V-Span's venting to the Greek media but there is a big difference. V-Span was a star for Greece and would have been happy to have stayed there making good money and being home in front of adoring fans. He was lured away from that and would probably not have come if he knew he would hardly play. Novak was a star at Marquette but it's not like he was lured away from Marquette and could have chosen to stay at Marquette as its star.
The same reason that George Mason goes to the final four, and why the best team doesn't win the NCAA title every year. - in a one game elimitnation (especially one that is an afterthought for most NBA players, and played by rules that don't cater to their strenghts) anything can happen. NBA teams (the Clippers, who happen to suck this year) lost becuase they were exhibition games, not because Trajan Langdon and David VanterPool have some secret European black magic team mojo. Oh, please, come off this myth. Answer my question: if Europeans are so much better at "team ball", why do a lot of the top teams rely heavily on American players (usually ones who didn't make it in the NBA - because they weren't good enough)? PS, It's hilarious that you think Nash is somehow emblematic of foreign training, and shows that you'rre just arguing cliches without real analysis. the guy went to Santa Clara. he grew up in BC. They dont' teach basketball any different there than here.
Yeah, in Euroleague play it looks like Batiste leads Pantha in both scoring and rebounding by a wide margin. I'd say that make him the star of the team. Delk looks to be averaging the second most points after Batiste even though he doesn't start all the time. The only other guy who seems to put up numbers is Diamanitidis, who goes for about 9-4. Olympiakos is led primarily by their backcourt of Alex Acker & Schoonie Penn, both American castoffs. Marcus Goree and Todd Lyday are the top guns on Benetton Treviso; Turkish powerhouse Efes is led by Drew Nicholas and Marcus Haislip...etc..
Vspan has to realize its going to take time for him to adjust, and he may never be the player he was in Greece in the NBA. There are many examples of guards who were all labeled good prospect who hasn't panned out. Just take a look at at Anthony Parker or Sarunas Jasikevicius. Both those guys dominated the U.S team, and are not that great in the NBA.
I did not mean to offend you with my post. But if you love him so much why don't you #### his pecker you little weasle hiding behind a keyboard.
Wow, did little luvey mistreat you last night, or what? In any case, yay for the Ignore function! You probably just got added onto a whole lot of peoples' ignore lists with that one. And oh yeah, it's spelled 'weasel'.
Hey Old Man Rock - the ostensible object of trolling the board incessantly the way you do it is to provoke others to fly into a foaming-mouthed, profanity filled rage, not to do so yourself. You = welcome.
Weasel or weasle either way go crawl in your little ignore hole. Oh and be careful when you come out of your little hole of flying words you might knock your eye out.

Huh? See Parker or Ginobili for SA when they first entered the league..... I see atleast 80-90%% of thier of talent in VSpan, and I could EASILY accept that as the 6th or 7th man on this Rockets team. I beg anyone to differ. Bonzi as our 6th?? Gawd, please. He's a SA killer at best; so what? We have thier number this year without him being so productive. Hell, look at the Rapters Garbajosa and Bargnani. The Raps are "in the race" in the "Least East Atlantic", and these rookie Europeans are getting serious burn in Toronto alongside Bosh and producing all the while. So, why can't VSpan get a little burn alongside Skip or TMac? I'm primarily a lurker, and I have no real beef with the coach, but even I have to step up and say that JVG needs to run this guy more often. This man drips of wild talent that simply needs harnessing. He's wasting away folks.... You brought this man in all the way from Europe, but for what? Give this dude some freaking burn! He thirsts for it... He's pure hustle every chance he gets; TO be damned...
