Wondering if I should pull the trigger on this laptop. Carrying a 17" around campus just wasn't working, so hopefully a 15" will makes thing easier.

    The main specs are:

    PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® XP Home edit
LCD PANEL 15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™ edit
MEMORY 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM edit
HARD DRIVE 80GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive edit
    OPTICAL DRIVE 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability edit
    VIDEO CARD 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™ edit
WI-FI WIRELESS CARD Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini Card (54Mbps) edit
    SOUND OPTION Integrated Audio edit

Price: $993. What do yall think?

I just got this Toshiba for $800 after rebate. It seems like buying it and adding a stick of memory would be a better deal.

Do AMD laptop chips still run hot? The laptop that I replaced had an AMD chip, and it got hot very easily.

Maybe this thread can also incite some discussion about AMD vs Intel dual core processors. Everything I'm reading says Intel is better... is it worth the price?

I also want to load the system with 2GB ram and a decent graphics (i.e. no Intel Media Accelorator...) I thought the Dell above was pretty fairly priced considering what I loaded it up with. Just need some feedback now...

I never had a 17", but I remember carrying a 15" was bad enough on campus. I'd recommend a 14.1" if you can, it makes a big enough difference.

i'm not sure if that's better than the $300 off $1,199 that they got going on right now. i wonder why this hasn't shown up on dealnews or slickdeals or anything...
