I decided to check this show after seeing the legions of it's fans grow every year. So I started watching Day (season) 1 last weekend and made it four hours in. So far, I'm not that impressed. I like the Jack Bauer segments, but I could do without his 'family' segments. It strikes me as prime-time drama that's designed to rope in married women with kids. I don't have any problem with married women with kids, but I don't really like that kind of show. After hearing how badass Jack Bauer is, I just can't see him being a family man every 'day' of the series. I don't mind him having a family off on the side, but I envisioned this series being more of a tough guy taking care of business. My question is this: do they phase out the 'family' parts of this series? If so, how long does it take? Please try to be as spoiler free as you can, I.E.: 'yes, early in season two'. Thanks.
Season 1 is starkly different than the rest. It's the only one without the feel of a Jerry Bruckheimer flick. It's good, but as said already, you need to watch it all the way through. Season 3 is the absolute apex of the show, IMO. Season 2's main plot is good but has some annoyingly irrelevant soap opera storylines along for the ride. 4, 5, and 6 are entertaining but suffer from the show's need to keep raising the "shock" bar. Starting last season, it began to openly jumping sharks. Evan
Oh, you didn't know? Jack Bauer ran out of terrorists to kill, so he killed his wife and daughter out of boredom. I hear the plot for this season is that Jack himself is the terrorist. He decided that he really needed a challenge, and since Jack Bauer can't be killed, that's about a challenging as it gets...
Yea, I think they're running out of new material for 24. It's like they're beating a dead horse. Spies here, there ...then someone gets kidnapped 5 times in 24 hours. I still watch it and it's addictive. Haven't started watching season 6 yet! I'm watching Prison Break now; it's great discounting the surrealism. LOST I only watched season 1..will watch season 2 soon!
i personally have a hate-hate relationship with 24; i really enjoyed the first 13 episodes of season 1, but my running problem with it ever since is that it too often defaults to its crutch "out" for most of its situations, which is having everyone act dumber than a mentally r****ded brick. the show, far more often than not, infuriates me. but every year, i see the kick ass ads during the football playoffs, absorb all the hype, get sucked back in... only to be reminded often why i hate the show. and then my own little countdown clock starts, usually by episode/hour 5.... this year's hanging on by a thread. i have, maybe, one more scene involving the president's sister in me before i throw a remote through a wall, yell at her for being the world's single dumbest, most self-centered human being and flip over to deal or no deal, or whatever.
Jack's family only really factors into Season 1 as far as the main plot goes. Well, at least til Season 6 which is looking to be another family affair.
If you're getting fed up with 24, try out the Shield (if you haven't already). I can't recommend it enough. Alternatively you could do what I do with my wife and friend: give 24 the MST3K treatment. Entertains us greatly. Evan
on a very different level though. is anyone else as disappointed with the current president as i am? that had to be the worst speech ever given, even dubyuh does a better job of public speaking than that.
Season 1 was really good... but yes, the family stuff was annoying. Stick with it. You might feel a little bit of the same in Season 2... but it won't be as inline with the main plot stuff and you won't feel it really after a while
I can't stand it when people are annoyed by a lot of the implausibilities in the show. Why does it have to be realistic? IT'S A FRICKIN' TV SHOW! It's for ENTERTAINMENT. And I find it very entertaining, even if it's not completely realistic.
