[Travel] Clubs\Discoteques and Lunch in Austin

So I'm headed up to Austin this weekend. I need some inexpensive lunch spot recomendations. I promised a friend we'd have lunch late Friday afternoon. Anything near Brodie and 71. I'm hitting up Magnolias on Sunday and Salt Lick on Sat.

Also, Some girlfriends are taking me out properly in celebration of my new single male status. I haven't hit the clubs\bars in so long. In fact the last time I hit a bar in A-town it was Coppertank and thats already closed. Or so they tell me. I want something were they play Elctro\Alt\Retro and I can dance like it was 1999. If anyone has been to midtowns Boys' and Girls' club @ A38 on Wednsdays this is the kinda place I want. Stuff like MSTRKRFT, Tom Vek, Maurice Fulton, Artic Monkeys, Hot Chip, Daft Punk, Diamond Nights, Wolfmother, The Subway's, Moving Units, Hollertronix and Diplo, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Soulwax &; 2many Dj's, the Glimmer's, etc...

    Thanx in Advance

For lunch on Friday, you could do Trudy's on 290 and Lamar. Otherwise, try Hula Hut at Lake Austin and Enfield. Of course, Shady Grove is also a good choice if you're in the mood for burgers, but it's near Barton Springs and Lamar. Artz' Rib House on South Lamar is a good choice too. If you're absolutely set on the 71 and Brodie area, there's a Cafe Serrano's as well as a Chipotle right there.

As far as clubs there's like only 3 big ones down here:

Vicci: Colorado b/w 4th and 5th; pretty decent place with a good mix of hip-hop and techno

Spin: Congress b/w 4th and 5th; plays lots of retro stuff as well as hip-hop (formerly Sky Lounge)

Gruv: 5th and Congress, across from Apple Bar; just opened and I haven't been yet.

That's funny, I just saw it on a travel show for Texas. Mentioned techno so I thought of it when I read your post above. Never been there though, sorry.

SG is cheap but food is so-so. Chuy's is right next door though. If you want to spend a little bit more and stay close to Brodie, the new Satellite Cafe opened at Slaughter and Escarpment.

Elysium is retro, but in a mid-late 80s kind of way.

The only place I've been in ATx where people actually danced was The Parish...there were a couple bands that played from 8-10, then from 10-3am they played stuff like Daft Punk, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Chk Chk Chk, etc...

Of course it's more of a venue than a club, so I guess they don't play that kind of stuff every night...

fwiw, i really think that the burgers from P. Terry's on Lamar just south of Riverside are the best in town...they're small, but really good. get the double.

well cant really help you with the club suggestions... since i dont really dance all too much or very well. but lovejoys plays that "sort" of music but its mainly a beer place with no dance floor.

BUT for breakfast you MUST go to mi madres on manor road. your mouth will touch the best breakfast taco ever. my mouth is just watering thinking about it. not only is it good but cheap. if anyone suggests tacoshack as the best place for breakfast tacos...dont listen to them. i and many others once thought that until going to mi madres.
