The better the team Battier plays on the more important he becomes.

He might be the defensive player of this year.

    Yes he is.

And some of you say if you can trade for duncan, hell yea, of course i would. But that isn't realistic. For all the realistic offers we get, we would prolly reject.

well no one is untouchable except for yao ming so i voted no, but i agree with the post that he's realistically untouchable. we're not getting garnett for him.

battier is way more valuable than i ever thought and i supported the trade from day one.

If one accepts as true the maxim that 'Defense Wins Championships'

    And..

One notices that this year, the Rockets have, by far, the best defense in the NBA..

Then one is led inevitably to the realization that this improvement is due almost entirely to the influence of Battier, both in actual on-court performance, but in more intangible areas as well, such as leadership, leading by example, and showing the other players that hard work and serious effort really do pay off.

It is becoming more and more apparent that there could not have been a single player who better fits this team available to be acquired this past offseason than Battier.

It is also more and more apparent that the Grizzlies were taking him for granted, and that CD made Jerry West his B. Yotch.

It would be impossible to overestimate Battier's value to this team now.

Name any current NBA player(s) who could give this team what Battier does, as effectively as he does.

While there MAY be some out there, the list would be very short, and chances are, every one of them would generally be regarded as more of a 'Superstar' than Battier himself.

What a steal he was. We essentially made West pay Stro 25 million, we stole Battier, took the sure thing, and made West take all the risk on a risky-proposition draft pick.

Just imagine how this deal will eventually be regarded if Gay turns into J.A.P (Just Another Player), while the Rox win a few rings.

This is the kind of deal which could both permanently tarnish West's 'genius' reputation, while simultaneously cementing CD's entry into the HoF.

I know I probably make it out to be a little sweeter than it really is, but, for those who truly understand basketball, who can really appreciate fine play when they see it, then it's really not that much over the top.

I'll agree with that... there are few players I would give up Battier for simply because few are as good a fit alongside our superstars. But I think Billups would be one of those exceptions.

I don't mind seeing a Battier-Artest trade even though Artest has a bad image.

I think apart from Yao, nobody on this team is 100% untouchable. But I think Battier is more untouchable than TMac simply because it is much harder to get equal value for him than for TMac. With TMac, you would get another superstar. With Battier, who would you get that would fit better than him?

Another possible trade involving Battier is as part of a package deal to land a superstar. Something like TMac and Battier for Kobe and Odom. . . nnnah. :D

oh, I voted before I read the part about Garnett. If you can get a guy that caliber w/o also giving up Yao or McGrady, absolutely. But anything less than a superstar, no, Battier is crucial to this team.

I wouldn't trade him at all, unless it would be for Garnett or Lebron, which is out of the question anyway, so yes, in practice, he is untouchable to me.

I still want Kiri, though...and Francis after he gets waived in NY...

    so.....

    Francis
    T-Mac
    Battier
    Kiri
    Yao

I would say for now he is untouchable. I don't know why we would trade him anyways since he was attained at a reasonable price. He does the dirty gritty work that is needed on this team. We are definitely lucky to have a player that is willing to do the little things needed to win a championship. He is not someone you build a team around but he is a player that compliments the player you are building around very nicely. Unless we can get a player with the same fire, IQ and I dare say balls that Bat has then it just is not worth the trade. I really hope the type of player he is spreads on the rest of our players because he is what gives your star players the chance to win it all.

You can't compare them to battier! its not fair to him!! battier was not brought to Houston as our 3rd scorer!!! Instead you should be asking the same question referring Tmac that would make sense since your just looking at players who can score!

Threads have been done about T-Mac already. I was asking about Battier because of recent dreamcasting threads about Kirilenko and Gasol and the reticence of including Battier in a deal for them (some people were also hesitant to include Head, but I figured I'd ignore that). I'm not dogging Battier; I think he's great. But, I'm surprised that he's so untouchable in people's daydream rosters.

A good point was made about the impossibility of having 3 max players (given our owner). Since we'd be matching salaries, I think it'd be technically possible, though we'd have no bench afterward. But, on a quality per dollar paid basis, Battier may be hard to beat. Superstars are nice because the max makes sure they are underpaid. But, Battier is probably underpaid too, so I don't know if you could have a more efficient use of payroll. For Kirilenko, I might try.

I would like to say "yes" in this regard, but probably not. He was adored in Memphis and they traded him...

Speaking of Shane, I have a couple of Battier-related questions. Since I don't yet have the capacity to start threads, I'll try asking here.

    1) When Houston received Shane via trade, what were the terms of the deal? In other words, how long is he scheduled to be with Houston? For the remainder of his present Memphis contract?

    Also,

    2) Do any of you own replica Rockets jerseys? How is the quality? The Rockets Shop has Battier replicas but sadly not the Swingman kind, which I prefer. Do the numbers and letters stay on the jersey? Does the jersey fall apart in the washing machine? I need replica feedback; as I only have one jersey and it's a Grizzlies swingman. Thanks for the help.

Has there been any word as to whether the store and/or website will stock #31 in Swingman form?

    Thanks!
    BattiersBaby.

Battier is a good player, but he is not untouchable. If he could be more aggressive at the offensive end, I will give him more credits.
