OK, so I've found a better job, but I do like where I'm at now. What is the best way to quit without burning bridges? How sugary should I be to the current boss in my resignation letter? I know to thank him for the experience and say that I enjoyed my time, but do I need to go further? Also, should I give my reason for taking a new job? Should I give details about the new job? I've never quit a job in the middle of it. Always before, I had some project ending and would have to request a new assignment to stay on.
You don't need to be sugary at all. Definitely thank him for the experience and say you enjoyed your time, but that's it. DO NOT give your reason for taking a new job or give details of the new job.
Take your vacation before you leave. Even if you like the job and the people, you can't trust anyone once you leave.
I swear this forum lives my life for me. I was about to start a thread about this I'll be starting my new job on the 5th, today would be 2 weeks, but I'd really be leaving the 28th. I'm kinda hoping they just fire me. But I'll put up with the extra week just to get a full check before I leave. an extra chunk to probably buy my PS3.
Keep it simple. Something like: "I have accepted a new opportunity outside of the company. As such, I am forced to resign my position effective two weeks from today's date. Until then, I am available during normal business hours to help make this transition as smooth as possible."
resignation letter is just stand operating procedure at most places, i assume.... keep it short and sweet. say thank you, i've enjoyed my time but it's time for me to move on, peace! about.com has good examples on how to write your resignation letter.
Just keep the letter short and professional. 3-5 paragraphs tops. Caution: As a rule of the thumb don't accept a counter offer.
Write the lettter and keep it short and sweet...Thank them for the opportunity, the experience and work environment in general... Do not accept a counter...it's a kiss of death...
It's so simple, but better than write it down I'll just show you a video.. <embed src="http://vidmax.com/img/vidmax_player.swf" width="450" height="447" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" flashvars="xml=http://vidmax.com/index.php/videos/playlist/&id=349&autoPlay=true&bg=http://vidmax.com/img/back.jpg" scale="showall" name="index" />
Point around the office and say to those you like and dislike.... Fu*ck You Fu*ck You Your Cool Fu*ck You Then throw something on the floor and walk out.
Totally agree there. I usually inform my manager first and make sure they know that it wasn't about them and it was just a better opportunity for your career. Then I send an email to my boss confirming that I will be leaving at the negotiated date. I letters usually are 3 sentences max that goes something like this. To whom it may concern, This letter is to inform you that my last day will be on a Feb 2, 2007. I enjoyed my experience working at (insert company name here) and wish everyone continued success.
You liar. You DON'T like it where you work. That's why you found a "better" job. Be prepared to answer WHY you want to leave the CURRENT job if there is a question like: "What can we do to keep you?" "What did we do to lose you, and what can we do to prevent losing others like you?" "To which trash can should we send your sh*tty projects?"
