Dunno how many really care, but I just feel the need to vent. Seems the best baseball game of last year and the best baseball franchise on the market, the MVP series, will be releasing it's 2007 incarnation next month. Problem is, not only is it exclusive to just one console, it's exclusive to a previous gen one; that's right, MVP '07 NCAA Baseball will be released ONLY on PS2, which promts a serious wtf?! I know with the exclusive licensing agreements in place forcing EA to go to the college ranks probably made the game less appealing. But c'mon, there is a fanbase for this series, one that will continue to grow as college baseball continues to gain popularity. I know I'm not the only one who loved '06 despite it's lack of pro teams...simply because it easily was the best baseball game of last year. I can't for the life of me understand why EA would decide to release this on just the PS2. I was really looking forward to this title, hoping to get it for the 360. At this point, I think I'd rather spend 8 bucks for '06 on the Xbox...and really hope that 2K7 has caught up to the MVP series.
MVP was my favorite of all the baseball games out there. I just looked at the previews for 2k7 and it actually looks pretty good. I'm going to have to pass though. Games get boring real fast for me.
Without even reading your post, I agree. *Reads post* Yeah, that does suck. I'm guessing they're waiting for more people to get a 360/PS3 before working on a next-gen NCAA baseball game (probably in 08...maybe around 3-4 times the possible userbase there is now). It is a lot easier just to make some tweaks to the previous PS2 games and just make profits on that. Suprised they didn't at least put out a version for the Xbox though (which you could play on the 360 with some minor enhancements...assuming it was BC). BTW, if I'm not mistaken, the 2K guys hired some of the guys that worked on the EA baseball games (worked on gameplay specifically IIRC). That should help a lot I imagine.
I heard about that; so I'm hoping maybe they bring over some of the key gameplay features that made MVP great. Guess I'll wait till I see some reviews for 2k7. And if I need a "ping" fix, I'll get '06 for the xbox.
Not totally related, but in NCAA Football 07 for the PSP: if you're running the ball, the computer marks you down where ever the first hit is. Meaning if you're first TOUCHED at the 20 but don't actually go down until the 25, you're down at the 20. Meaning don't even try running on 4th and 1. Meaning I don't play this game at all because the running game is severly disabled. Meaning you're right, EA sucks.
I like some of their games, although mostly from the studios they bought or have publishing deals with (Burnout, Spore or anything by Will Wright, Battlefield, C&C, LOTR:BFME, Crysis, etc.). I am a little interested in SKATE too (their answer to Tony Hawk). Didn't they fix that with a patch? They were supposed to IIRC.
I saw that. Add to that, EA promised that all D1 schools would be in the 2007 version. Just recently they said that only ~150 (~1/2) will be included. If they don't have the Southland, so I can play with Lamar, there's no chance of me buying it.
EA could stand to do a little better on their games. For as good a quality as they're always capable of putting out, games like Madden always have glaring glitches to them.
They can't. 2k got exclusive rights to MLB third party games. For PS2ers, MLB The Show was pretty good last year. I'm probably gonna pick up this year's game. I bought MVP NCAA last year. It wasn't a bad game, I just can't get into the college baseball thing. It also gets real frustrating when players get injured and you gotta figure out how to fix your lineup when you can't call up a player from the minors or sign a free agent.
