you do know that miami traded him to the grizzlies because he had lost most of his athleticism?

and i'm sure his very unconsistent shot from beyond the arc would at least give rafer a break when it comes to blaming players for losses.

i'd take him if we could clear out sura's spot.

If nothing else, it's insurance for TMac's back AND Bonzi's back/fatness/attitude AND Snyder's youngness/inconsistency right now.

Plus we could use him when defense is more impt than offense at the position instead of Head (late in games when we're up by a bit, need to hold down the opposition)

I would advocate picking up with two conditions: 1) we picked him up for the veteran's minimum and 2) we trade Bonzi and/or Sura for one of Indiana's surplus PFs -- Ike Diogu or Shawne Williams.

I think Shawn Williams will develop into a good player and that is why Indiana took him, but he is not going to develop on this Rockets roster getting very little playing time that JVG will give him.

agree! plus 35 with a large contract! I don't think that would do us any good in the long term!

this board doesn't need to revisit the "too old, too slow guards" posts again.

Exactly. We have other more important needs to try to use any roster openings on (i.e. Francis, Chucky Atkins, etc).

Otherwise known as creaky back, out of shape, Battier, broken wrist, too short, and no jumpshot.

The 2/3 rotation isn't solid right now no matter how many names you can list, and for the veteran's minimum for the remainder of the year (which is what he would be signed for) Eddie Jones would be a fine pickup.

It's funny to me how people see a guy is 35 and after glancing at his current stats they suddenly know he's washed up. Give me a break. The guy isn't getting minutes this season because they fired Fratello, they're playing at a blistering pace now, and they're developing young talent. Before this season he played in 96% of his possible games over 3 seasons, averaging about 34 minutes per game. This isn't Robert Parish we're talking about here. The guy doesn't just turn into dust because he's 35...

Just last year he averaged roughly 12/4/2.4 with 1.8 steals, while shooting 36% from 3, which happens to be just shy of his career average. He's also an 80% FT shooter.

All this crying about "he's past his prime". Well no **** Sherlock, most good players don't get waived in their prime, so what do you expect? He's a low risk, high reward kind of pickup. If we could have him for the vet minimum, we'd be stupid not to offer it.

sign him. last year he was their 3rd best player after Gasol + Battier. He is a great player and hes a veteran that can play. Battier cant play 48 minutes and guard someone, he can probably guard someone for 35 minute as best b ut after that it becomes stagnant and Eddie Jones is a great defender that knows how to defend and shoot. If anything we should sign him up! He can shoot and he is actually as worth as Bonzi is for our team.

The reason for his bad stats this year:
THEY ARE TANKING DAMN IT. EVEN THEIR FANS STATS THAT HES NOT EVEN TRYING ANYMORE AND IS LOOKING TO GET OUT.

    Just my 2 cent :)

the guy isn't washed up because he will be released by a lottery team. the guy was pretty washed up even before he came to this team.

you can tell me what you want but eddie jones has lost most of his athleticism. he would be even below average on our team! his defense started to fade when he was still with the heat. they traded him because of that. while he was an efficient shooter in his prime he is streaky and average at best now. he's 35 years old so you can be sure it won't get better with him.

he basically is what david wesley was last year.

He can still do what he did when he was younger. It's just a matter of pressing the right button by the right coach.

Ok, lets look at the pros and cons:

    Pros:
-He can still defend, he's height and high basketball iq makes up for his diminished athletic abilities
-He has play off experience(something our team really lacks)
-I think he can still shoot spot up 3's, not like he use to, but he can still get the job done
-great relief for shane when were playing scoring behemoths like kobe/dwade/lebron.
    -great team defensive player

*sadly, thats the only up side

    Cons:
    -old and brittle
-roster spots??? Bonzi is a great defensive player and a more reliable scorer. Kirk is long and more athletic, Head is short, but hes so gansta from long (I think if he wants to come here he's gonna have ALOT of competition).
-we need a back up at the 4/5 spot(I know dike is a beast, but hes not going to be with us forever, hell, he might not come back next year).... im liking ely, but i hear he lacks defense... =/

I think he would be a decent pick up for short term ONLY and I don't see why it would hurt the team if we added him to the roster. He was 24th last year in 3pts made, and shot at 35%(decent, but not GREAT numbers). For now, the rockets need to wait it out, see other options, and shop around because hes not going to be someone thats going to miraculously make us a champion team

-imo, we just don't need him... hes a good reliable player, but he doesn't address rockets problems(which is a consistent 3rd scorer, a 2nd option at the low post, a back up 4/5 with GOOD size, a pg that can drain treys).

I think bonzi is the answer to the 3rd reliable scorer and 2nd option at the post, as for the latter 2, thats something we need to address

If I am going to give an old guy a shot at the team, I would prefer Penny...who really doesn't have a lot of mileage due to injuries. He has had knee surgery to correct the bone spur he apparently had, and has fully rcovered. Teams that have seen him like him.
