If this has been posted already, feel free to lock it up.... Apparently there is a free credit, varies depending on household composition, that we can collect on this years returns.... Read the snopes article verifying the info and what it's all about... http://www.snopes.com/business/taxes/excise.asp
By my calcs, you're better off itemizing this thing if you can get your records together. I did a bit of research, and it looks like if you have had a decent cell-phone plan, you've been charged far more than 60 bucks. From what I've found, my understanding is the the FET is 3% of all cell phone bills. I pay about $100/mo for my cell phone plan, so that adds up to about $120 over the 40 months that can be claimed. All of my long distance is through my cell, so I only averaged about $1/mo in FET for my landline. Still, all told, my total excise tax refund should be about $160 by itemizing.
Cool...THanks...So its on all phones for the past 40 months...Sweet... Do you know if we're still able to itemize sales taxes for 2006? I know we could do it in 2005.
so has anybody done this yet? did they just do the $30-$60 or calculated it all. it is good on cell phones, correct?
