So 40 games in now, what are the top reasons why you want to watch the Rockets? Is it the competition, players, team, long time fan, love for the game, nothing better to do ... etc. For me, it is watching the magic of Tmac, Yao, Battier and JVG's defense.
I have seen atleast 98% of the games since the late 80s I am a die hard and love this team (this year's group is real special)
I watch the Rockets because they are entertaining and give vent to my feel for sports and to my former coaching interests. I have watched 25 seasons and love their big man game Malone,Sampson, Hakeem and Yao Ming. Which is what I consider traditional basketball. In the present team I like Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady and I have hopes for V Span and Steve Novak. I also consider Houston my adopted Hometown, now retired in San Antonio.
I, in the past, have avoided the NBA like a plague. When Chuck graduated I figured if he made it to an NBA team I would watch a couple games, see how he was doing. I never actually considered that I could LIKE the team he played for. When Chuck was brought up last year, I started following all the games, just to see how he performed. Checking the box score, reading the game quotes, posting on message boards to hear the "scoop". Through the course of this, I found a Rockets team, not a bunch of egotisical individuals playing like I had suspected I would see. Two superstars that were just as excited, if not more excited, when a teammate hit a big shot as when they themselves made one. Players who would fall on the floor for the ball, or take a charge, in order to help the team move to the next level. Reserves on the sidelines jumping up and cheering for their teammates, even if they themselves hadn't seen the court in two weeks. That's why I love watching the Rockets now. I love Yao's dedication. I love Tmac lack of selfishness. I love Shane Battier's hustle and heart. Heck I even love when Juwan hits four or five of those top of the key jumpers or Skip to my Lou Rafer makes one of those floaters down the lane. I love watching Luther make clutch threes. I love watching Deke block younger players like Amare. This team is full of reasons to try and watch every single game. Not because there is one bright shining superstar that is going to showboat every night, but because each and every player on the team has a role and does their best to fulfill it every time they come on the court. If they win it all at the end of the season... that will just be a bonus to a fun year of team basketball for me.
I'd watch the Rockets if our best player was Scott Padgett. I watch them because I'm a Rockets fan. I've been a Rockets fan since I was a child and so long as they're the Houston Rockets I will remain a loyal fan and watch every game I possibly can.
I watch because I love basketball and the Rockets. It makes me feel good and this year better then good because I love watching the team play this squad brings.. I love everything about the Rockets because the franchise rules
been a hardcore fan since 92. Watched the heart breaker agains the sonics that year and started sippin on the haterade for george karl since. i really watch them because its a houston sport. this team was the first team to bring home a championship to houston and the fan base has been pretty steady (that and stros fanbase is amazing too) history, winning culture, the great fans that would die for this team would be my reason.
Beautiful! I couldn't have said it any better. The personalities and chemistry of this team really make it enjoyable to be a Rockets fan.
The knowledge of how much better this collection of talent could be with a championship-caliber head coach.
I heard a tree fall in the woods once. JVG only fan...PFFT !! Personally I have been a fan since the 1972-73 season. I am an addict...no doubt about it. DD
Honestly, after T-Mac went down at Washington, I got really interested with Bonzi Wells' come back. We were losing those OT games on the road, but with Wells in the lineup getting in shape and getting minutes, it was like we had just traded for him and was excited to finally get to see him play. I did the same thing when we traded for Wesley. I was pretty excited to finally get a shooter like that, his first game was at Cleveland, I remember it well. But since Yao got hurt, I've become rather indifferent to the Rockets unfortunately. Not that I don't have faith that we can win without him, but just the sigh of having yet another season with an * next to it has become almost unbearable. My concerns about long term effects of his injury still linger as well ala career tendinitis or arthritis. What if he comes back timid or unagressive as half the battle of an injury often is the psychological aspect of it, can you really trust the joint, how long until we get the pre-1st-quarter-Clippers-game Yao back? Will we ever? I'm sure, but you never know... Again, it has just become tiring to have to constantly "tread water" with this team... Other than that, GO ROCKETS!!!
Your fanaticism has gone beyond pathetic- it's almost admirable. Captain Ahab ain't got nuthin on you! It amazes me the level of hatred that some can maintain towards others, just amazing. I tried, and it never lasts for more than 2 days. I need tips, I guess, on how to sustain negativity and spite for years at a time. Wow.
