We need a big, but in the lower half of the draft, I don't think there will be one who can provide anything. Morris Almond is a SG/SF with size at 6'6 and can shoot from the 3. He gets to the freethrow line and he knocks down shots from everywhere. Not a great athlete, but he should be a good compliment to Yao and should be able to backup McGrady and contribute right away. He's a smart kid, attending Rice, and could be just what JVG is looking for in a SG.

I brought this up when he torched my Cardinals. He's a solid, hard-nosed player who can light it up occasionally. I think he could be a pretty good Stackhouse-type player. If he's available when the Rockets pick, he will likely be BPA.

Occasionally? He's top 5 in NCAA scoring.

I meant at the NBA level. He's a great scorer in college. Great college scorers can almost always be successful in the NBA, but those with less athleticism can't do it every night.

    Detlef????

I'd like to think he compares to a player like Josh Howard. Second round steal because he was a baller and his athleticism was good enough although not great. But he was player of the year in his conference and proved he could ball.

Almond has a very good chance to have a very good NBA career, possible All-Star consideration, because he knows how to ball.

    Look at his PPS.

I know it's waaaaayyyyyyyy too early to be talking about the draft but a couple of the draft sites predict Almond to go in the mid-20's -- right about where we'll likely draft at. I've seen this kid play a couple times and he really is a skilled player and gifted scorer that could be a huge steal. Definitely a player to keep an eye on.

Penders compares Almond to Allen Houston so JVG should love him.

I saw him play and wanted to bring him up in the GARM... he's a streaky shooter that gets hot quickly... wouldn't hurt... he's DISCIPLINED and SMART (RICE :D)

Right, JVG will look at a mid-20s pick as a savior/starter. Let's hope the pick turns into a rotation guy in 2-3 years.

hmm...allen houston is actually a pretty good comp. almond is stronger than him, and can put it on the floor and get in the lane. a very good shooter, i think he's novak with more athleticism and basketball IQ. not to say novak has bad bball iq, but his mentality isnt as well rounded as almond.

If former Miner Jason Williams could shut him down, I don't think NBA players will have trouble defending him. Of course, he might have improved that much since last year...I haven't seen him play this year.
