actually he is going to the Feb 9th game along with me, my cousins, kroyshaf, roderick_98, and GAY4WHO??? got the tixs today, and getting pretty damn excited about it, i just hope a different outcome from tonights game.
A 3 dollar/month charge, possibly followed by more? No thanks. Roadrunner is the last remaining TWC service my parents have, and it already costs a total of $54/month I'm definitely going to move them to DSL now.
my HD reception usually craps out during largely watched events... probably because im in an apt complex.
yea i wanna switch to DSL too. But unfortunately im about 20 yards away from being able to get it. i hate that!!!!!! i have no choice but to stay with Roadrunner until they fix that. but as soon as i hear word of it, im leaving cable. screw that. they told me i was gonna be paying 88 dollars a month, and im paying 126!!
To answer a couple questions proposed in this thread. Yes, all comcast customers are subject to 3 dollars a month for cable modem leasing, and yes, you can buy your own cable modem and not be subject to the fee. Also, the 16 mb/s is being released on a market-by-market basis. I don't have the details. Signed, Your Friendly Comcast High Speed Internet Tech Support Guy.
i wouldn't be complaining about Time Warner Cable...consider yourself lucky that you can even get TWC. I'm stuck with TVMAX which sucks..really bad
What about the rates? Will there be any new or different packages? 100k dl, 15k ul - $20 500k dl, 35k ul - $50 - current rate 1,600 dl, ?? ul - = ???
I've got it at my house, and I agree. Most of my channels and internet are top notch thanks to being fed off of fiber optics. They're slow to bring in the newer stuff (DVR???), but they're good people. They've really improved their quality over the past year - used to be some channels came through crappy and some occasionally still do (the audio on TNT is flaky at the moment). But they're certainly not trying to screw us over like TX/Comcast. Evan
Preston is a poser, he works for Convergys, which gets Comcast's outsourced tech support junk. I "think" the current standard Roadrunner will become the 6mb Comcast High Speed. Don't remember pricing, or if there was even any change besides the 3 dollar modem fee. Earthlink likes to save you money.
No kidding sound like both company end up winning and the customers in both areas are getting screwed
The letter I got said that there will be a modem lease fee of three dollars, but that my roadrunner service was going down two bucks, which means a net increase of one dollar. Yeah, I think I can swing an extra 12 bucks per year for cable modem service...
I ripped my letter up. I don't recall seeing that. Its not just about the $3/month. They raised the converter box fees, now added this, and who knows what they will add next ..... the only thing they are NOT adding are more HD channels.
I don't have digital cable, so I'm not really worried about the converter boxes and HD channels and all that. I got an ad from DirecTV yesterday with really good prices on their dish packages, but the prices were only for 12 months. I'm sure the price gets jacked up 5 or 6 bucks per month after the promotional period ends. Plus, it costs five bucks per month for each additional room that you want installed. There is dish network, but they charge extra for local channels. The satellite companies will manage to nickle and dime you just as much as the cable companies...
Sounds like you can save money http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/internet_service_providers/ January 13, 2007 Time Warner, it is a'changin' While I was at CES, Time Warner notified its customers via snailmail about the first visible changes that are the result of Comcast taking over the Houston cable TV/Internet system. Kevin Whited at blogHouston posted an entry earlier in the week, saying cable Internet subscribers would be charged a $3-a-month fee to lease their modems. That's a price hike, but it's not the whole story. The letter also indicates the cost of cable-modem service will be reduced by $2, for a total $1 price hike when the lease fee is added. But there's a way you can even avoid that. As with other Comcast markets, Houston subscribers may now buy their own cable modems, thus avoiding the lease fee. For those who choose to do so, the price of cable Internet here will be less than under the Time Warner regime. The letter points recipients to a FAQ set up by Comcast/Time Warner, where they can learn more: What if I want to buy my own modem? This is absolutely fine. What you'll need to do is once you purchase the new modem, (modems can be purchased at any major electronics retailer, such as Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA etc.) then call in to our customer service center and have them setup your modem on your account. Once your modem has been added to your account please allow 48 -72 hours for services to initiate. Please check with a retailer of your choice for availability and costs associated with purchasing. You'll need a modem that uses the DOCSIS 2.0 standard. As this Frys.com page shows, prices for a compatible modem run between $60-$80.
I am just gonna buy my own modem if I stay with cable. The only good thing about leasing one is that if it breaks its very easy to replace.
