Hopefully the software isn't Microsoft based. That would be great. Just as you get ready to shoot you get a BSOD. Also, knowing the way people treat their systems, every idiot would install 'Webshots', 'Gator', 'Real Download', and half a dozen other pieces of crap software that would cause the machines to crash.
Oops... I just looked closer and it is running on Windows! According to the site: God help our soldiers!
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft© Windows© Operating System provides compatibility with commercial interfaces oh great . Another interesting site.... What ever happened to SECRET weapons ? http://www.missilesandfirecontrol.com/our_products/firecontrol.html
Well at least the systems have Email and File Transfer. Those soldiers are probably out there swapping Mp3s and forwarding chain letters about dieing kids who will live if you forward this message.
I just noticed that the system has help files. I can see it now some soldier out in the middle of a forest trying to find his location needing to pull up the help files to figure out how to use the mapping software.
Just in case anyone is curious how well Landwarrior works, last year the army tested it out . A platoon (about 40 troops) of 82nd troops was outfitted with what was then the system (it's continually changing) and told to initiate a night assault against a full batallion (about 600+ troops) of 82nd troops. These are all airborne guys, probably the best infantry in the world. The Landwarrior armed troops all "died", of course, which was expected since they were outnumbered by over 15:1. But they "destroyed" over 85% of the "enemy" batallion first... The Soviets never had anything like this in Afghanistan.
