I've noticed that. It looks like it is because he doesn't think about it and uses his whole body. Watch...when he launches his body during the jump shot (somewhat like Luther but less exaggerated) he looks looser and seems to shoot better. But then again, everything looks better when watching Alston shoot.
The thing is.. with Yao, Wells, and Snyder missing lots games.. we dont have the man power and talent to attack the rim, with all those injuries we are not big, strong, fast enough to get high % by attacking the rim
that is true, but dont you think mabyee 10 or so of those threes would be better served as midrange jumpers?
If it is a wide open shot, take it, if they are not falling ....drive it. The 3 ball and the DIT offense got 2 championships to Houston.....JVG is banking on it happening again. DD
Why that? Alston and Head shoot much better at 3 point line than their mid ranges... besides a 3-pointers has 1 more point.
I think JVG is taking advantage of our strengths as a jump-shooting team. We don't have the athletes that can take it strong to the basket to score or get to the charity stripe. Instead we have a team stacked with jump-shooters that play off of the attention that McGrady and Yao draw from the defense. If we didn't rebound as well as we have been, I would argue against shooting so many threes... but the fact of the matter is that we've been shooting reasonably well and have been especially scrappy around the basket to wipe up missed shots. With the above said, I still think McGrady too often settles for jump shots rather than making use of the open lanes created by the Battier, Head, Howard. I think now that Yao is out of the game, TMac's role can become increasingly obscure because we all expect him to be our primary distributor and scorer. IMHO he would be most effective at both if he were to attack the post.
