Anyone hearing about this major ice storm coming to Houston on Sunday? It's supposed to be pretty bad. Down to the 20's on the North side? Freeways iced over, businesses closed, dogs and cats living together, MASS HYSTERIA! Maybe, maybe no.
It has already cometh here in OKC. It is pretty ridiculous. It was like 60 yesterday and today there's an ice storm.
I can't wait, coffee blankets and cigs on the porch sunday morning in Houston, a rare occurence indeed.
Global Coldening. According to the NWS, it's not supposed to hit until Mon night/Tues morning. A late start or a day off on Tuesday would be pretty sweet, but I'm not sure it's supposed to get much below freezing here in the big city. Sunday Night...Showers and thunderstorms likely in the evening... Then showers likely after midnight. Breezy. Lows in the upper 30s. Chance of rain 60 percent. Martin Luther King Jr Day...Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of rain. Breezy. Highs around 40. Monday Night...Cloudy. A 50 percent chance of rain until early morning...Then a 50 percent chance of rain...Light freezing rain and sleet late. Breezy. Lows around 30. Tuesday...Cloudy. A 50 percent chance of rain...Light freezing rain and sleet in the morning...Then a 50 percent chance of rain in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 30s. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/forecasts/TXZ213.php?zo=1&city=Harris+County
They've backed off what was certain to be a winter wonderland here in Austin for Sunday & Monday. Now, the cold front doesn't come through until late Sunday and that it won't really get below 30. Not exactly the catastrophe of dogs and cats living together that it seemed like it would be earlier in the week.
No matter the severity of the weather, one thing is for certain. The SHI!TT!EST drivers in Houston will be out and about when it gets here.
Yeah, but I think it's more Texas Drivers in general. We used to cook up some popcorn and sit there watching all the cars sliding into each other like dominoes in Fort Worth. This one big hill always had people sliding one after another into each other.
What a wacky world we live in. You are worried about an ice storm, and I am worried about 65 degree temps and 100% humidity at 7:00 am on Sunday when the half marathon starts. No records will be set Sunday. Marathon/Half Marathon Thread
Last time it really froze in Austin, I watched people trying to get up this one very steep hill and it led to nothing but comedy (Spicewood Springs & 360). Watching the Corvette make the attempt has to still be one of the dumbest acts I have ever witnessed.
Couple of my friends are running this year. They ran their first half marathon in Austin a couple of years ago, when they had to postpone the start due to ice on the route. Now they get to deal with the humidity. And this time they're running their first full. I figure that would be enough messages from God to convince me to stop running the damn things. Best of luck. If you see a guy around 11th & Studemont, drinking coffee & looking bored, that'll be me.
Just make sure one of the runners doesn't think your cup of coffee is Gatorade! [que the Seinfeld quotes]
This is the beauty of knowing some of your fellow posters well. I can completely picture that and it's cracking me up.
Ice storm hit pretty hard up here in Norman, today. Last night we went and did the usual, stocked up on food, candles, etc. so we don't have to go out today (opening a completely iced over car door is a b****). Just enjoying sitting around, watching TV and posting, right now.
The wife and I drove up from Houston this morning to Manhattan, KS to visit my brother-in-law before he ships out. It normally is a twelve hour drive and it took us close to 15 hours due to the ice storm in Oklahoma. The drive sucked but cleared up once we reached Kansas. Its freaking 11 degrees outside, while in Houston my brother has his A/C going. Never thought I'd say I miss the weather in Houston.
What channel are you watching, the one I just watched showed an Ice storm on Sunday and Monday and potential snow flurries on Tuesday or Wed. DD
