What will give me better quality?

Pioneer Plasma with 1024*768 pixels or a Sony LCD HDTV with 1366*768 pixels?

the Sony is higher res (720p HD is 1280 X 720) --- so it gives you more native pixels on the screen

but image quality depends on other factors (brightness, contrast, user preference, color range)

If resolution is most important go with the sony LCD ... other factors you really need to compare side by side.

Thanks. I couldn't figure out why my HD cable looked better on the Sony TV, the whole plasma thing messed me up.

All I really care about is getting the best picture possible.

picture quality is a combination of many factors (resolution, sharpness, color, brightness, contrast, etc)

The Lcd has more pixels so it can produce higher resolution (more detailed) images. But the Plasma will generally manage contrast better. There's a give and take with both of them. That's why you need to compare them side by side to see what you prefer.

... also you might want to try different picture settings in the TV's menu to see if you can tweak the picture to look better. Get a disney DVD (like "Finding Nemo" with THX optimizer ... it will help you adjust your TV picture quality.

    Pioneer
    PDP-42A3HD Plasma TV

    Sony
    Sony Bravia S-Series LCD HDTV
    Model: Model KDL32S20L1

I can see that the Sony picture is much clearer, but I'm not sure if I have the settings right for the Pioneer.

Also, the Pioneer TV is much bigger than the Sony. So I'm not sure what is more important, a bigger screen or better clarity. If I had to choose, I'd go with clarity.

    gucci,
its important that you read the reviews on the tv. lets not forget the sony seems clear since its a smaller tv. the bigger the tv, the bigger the pixels.
if its a choice between a 32inch tv vs a 42inch tv, pick the 42. the pioneer got good reviews:

I just came back from CES. I was looking at the 70inch Bravia LCDs!

in my opinion, the plasmas look a bit "cleaner" in the larger format. i like the LCDs for the smaller screens. anything less than a 42" plasma seems like a waste. again, this is my opinion.

    good luck.

There's a 57" Mistubishi DLP 1080p that is $2099 and a 65" 1080p Mitsubishi DLP at 2499 at Connvict's  . HURRY... go see it live... they have a 1080p demo going on... I believe it expires TODAY. Is that a good deal?

    So...

50" Samsung plasma (780p) for $2499 at most places???
    or
    57" Mitsubishi DLP (1080p) for $2099 at CONN's???

Thanks, I guess it all comes down to whether I want the bigger screen or the better quality.

I, along with my friend, noticed that the quality was noticable different on both tvs (obviously), but the difference was so much that I called my cable company to ask if I was getting HD service (I was).

Pioneer Plasma TVs are considered some of the best on the market so I really thought it had something to do with the cables or settings. The Sony also got really good reviews too.

where are you watching these tvs? at the store?
are they both using HD Component cables? or hdmi?
the pioneer (according to the revew, needs the color setting to be on low)

are those the only tvs you are looking at?
