Between a speech by Peter Dille, Sony Computer Entertainment America's senior VP of marketing, and a Sony representative both indicating MotorStorm would debut in the US at 60 frames per second and supporting 1080p resolutions, the Internet's been ablaze with speculation about the off-road racer. Too bad it's all for nothing, as SCEA told 1UP that MotorStorm is most definitely 30fps and remains at a HD resolution of 720p. HD is new concept for gaming, so the mistake isn't a surprise but certainly a disappointment to many with high-end televisions. According to Sony, people "accidentally got caught up in the greater context of his [Dille] point which is that we currently do have (and will be creating much more) content that does run at 1080p and 60fps for PS3."
He meant, post the contents of the story. The content: The 'True HD' concept is certainly off to a rocky start on Sony's console that could. Despite confirmation from SCEA senior VP of marketing Peter Dille that MotorStorm would rocket to the US at 60fps in glorious 1080p, Sony today rescinded that remark. MotorStorm, alas, will be presented in lowly 720p, chugging along at 30fps. Seriously though, those numbers will keep MotorStorm competitive -- and in HD. We just couldn't miss out on an opportunity to muffle the True HD buzz. Seems overblown to me. Doesn't suggest that the SYSTEM can't do 1080p/60fps, only that this particular game won't be when it was previously announced it would. Unless I'm missing something somewhere. Evan
No, you didn't miss anything, but it's still more overhyped bull**** spewing from Sony. Emotion Engine anyone? If they didn't talk out of their asses half the time, they wouldn't be in the mess they're in.
MotorStorm was never announced to support 1080p/60fps to my knowledge. At all the presentations for it, it was 720p/30fps. The PSN demo was the same, and the final retail version (for Japan) also was 720p/30fps. If Evolution Studios could have gotten the game to support 1080p/60fps at those visuals in 3 months, not to mention add online play, they'd be the best video game developer ever...or the developer that hates Japan the most. I haven't checked out Dille's comments yet. If he did indeed say that the game supported 1080p/60fps, then he must have gotten confused somehow. I recall stories about some Sony spokespeople at CES saying the same, so perhaps there was some miscommunication somewhere (bad spec sheet or something). I know they didn't seem to know what they were talking about.
yeah i noticed that too when i listend to his key note yesterday. he had a lot of his facts completely wrong just to make microsoft look bad. motor storm at 1080p, and 60fps... and i remember readinng that its only 780, 30fps. so yeah he should definitly get flamed for that. so now it looks like he downplayed his own product "1080p is the only true HD, our games are 1080p"...sorry buddy. i went to 6 different stores today looking for a Wii... couldnt even find a controller let alone a console. ps3's everywhere...stacked.
This isnt even a big deal! There are only 7, maybe 8 people that have TVs that actually support 1080p. And 720p looks better than 1080i most of the time... What the hell is problem?
1080p Vs. 720p...I doubt that most people can see the difference anyway. And who really cares? If the game is fun, its a great game. I don't hear to many people complaining that they think Gears of War would be twice as fun if it was in 1080p. I'm not a big racing game guy, but the Motorstorm demo is pretty cool.
