Game thread had a poster who posted their pics with Kobe. I really didn't mean any offense when i asked her why she did that, but apperently much offense was taken. So I really want to know what people think about this. Leave the basketball universe for a moment and forget the fact that Kobe is a Laker who we love to hate, but would you even think about the morality of taking a pic with Kobe if the opportunity ever arose?
Ummm....exactly what do you mean? Please explain.... Are you talking about taking a picture of someone who was tried and acquitted on a rape charge? Personally....I wouldn't care, but I have rarely had my pic taken with a pro athlete anyway. I prefer pro musicians.
That's like asking, forgetting that he is the President and Commander-in-Chief, what would you do to Bush if you saw him on the streeet.
Huh? I guess... but I didn't ask you to forget that he's Kobe or a basketball player. What are you saying?
Well, no, because I don't generally have my picture taken with strange celebrities. And because I've always hated Kobe. And, I hate the Lakers. But, that he cheated on his wife and that I think he did something I consider morally repugnant and maybe borderline illegal wouldn't bother me. All my friends are morally repugnant. Of course, his immoral actions do make it all that much easier to hate on him, since I was already set on hating him anyway.
I'm not the type to take pics with celebs but I'd have no problem taking a pic with Kobe. On a side note I dont think he raped her anyway.
What kind of morality shuns the immoral? The best kind of moralities teach that we are all immoral and in need of change. But he's a Laker, and he's Kobe. There's immoral and then there are Lakers.
Not taking a picture with a celebrity is not shunning someone. Heh. But good point. I don't want to tour america with a blow-horn on my car telling everyone to shun Kobe; but if he was ever standing next to me and I had a camera, I wouldn't ask for his presence on my film (memory card?).
I pretty much agree with this post. But I don't really care if anyone else does take a picture with him.
How do you figure? You're suggesting you wouldn't take a picture with him because he is a[n alleged] rapist, implying you would have done the picture otherwise. So, you're specifically avoiding a picure-taking with Kobe because of what he's done. Isn't that shunning?
I vote "no" but not for the reason given. I wouldn't get my picture taken with any athlete because I am not really interested. I do, however, think it would be awesome to have a picture of JVG with my baby. If anyone knows hot to make it happen, I will pay good money. Even more if it is in the middle of a losiong streak and he is especially haggard.
As an aside, if you did meet Kobe and did NOT take a pic, the people of this board would not believe you
he didn't rape anybody. a cheater yes, but if you were a rich famous athlete, you'd have to be pretty strong willed to stay "clean" or morally straight. everyone makes mistakes. his are just public because he's an NBA player. basketball wise, he's one of the greatest talents that the game has seen. gotta get a picture.
No. There is a yao size difference between seeking to have your picture taken with a celebrity and taking a picture with someone off the street that asks you to pose with him/preferably her. You really have to go out of your way and put effort into getting a pic with a celebrity, at the very least it requires intention and effort. So put simply, I would not go out of my way to get a picture with someone who i dont like. Why would you want a picture with someone you dont like? Dammit, so I'd shun Kobe Bryant. Now you all know I am morrally repugnant rapaphobe.
