I am planning a trip to Memphis and Tunica next weekend and am currently searching for a hotel to stay at. Right now the plans are not official and probably won't be until early next week (Monday or Tuesday) so it is very short notice for reservations. I am looking for the best deal I can find on a hotel located in or near downtown Memphis. Any suggestions? I know there are a lot of sites out there that deal with this stuff, such as Priceline, Orbitz, and Travelocity, but I am looking for people who have used these sites and had good experiences. I am also looking for any other help or suggestions you all can recommend.
I've used priceline a lot for traveling, and have never been dissapointed. Hotwire has been good to me as well.
Priceline but go to betterbidding.com and do a little research first. Look at the list of the hotels Priceline is offering in the area. Then check the latest quotes and that should give you a ballpark to start in. You can get some great rooms in great hotels for a great price. But Sometimes you might get the "Priceline" room (2nd floor by the ice machine or elevator).
Another place I go is www.tripadvisor.com Great reviews from people who have actually stayed in the hotels. Sometimes you can find a great hotel at a good price. They also link to other sites.
I was able to get a great room from the hotel's website for about $15 cheaper than any of those websites.
What hotel are you staying in? A nice area of Memphis is Germantown, just north of Memphis. Lots of shopping and places to eat. A lot of new development.
I do tons of sports traveling and priceline.com is the best. I paid for $45 for a night at the Crown Plaza hotel in Big D. Always choose the 4 star option. It's the best deal. I just got back from Memphis. Make sure you get the ribs at Rendevous.
I'm staying at the Comfort Inn downtown. Has a king bed, non-smoking, view of the river, wet bar, high speed Internet, etc. For $16 less than the websites I checked. Yeah, Germantown is nice but I believe it is in east Memphis. North Memphis is the Wolfchase area which is also nice.
I've used priceline for both hotels and rental cars. Rental cars, there's no comparison -- you are just throwing money away if you book any other way (I rarely pay >$10). For hotels, I've usually had really good luck. I've had pretty good luck, but not always. The hotels I've gotten have always been nice, but I sometimes can't get anything on priceline as cheap as just going to the hotels directly.
